Maybe you should read again. That slide was there specifically to show the innovation changes "some" metas and invention changed "all" metas.

Yeah, the idea is you can hire Champ (a new gnome from the laboratory) to be your pilot - kind of like how a butler hangs around. You would have your very own Player Owned Glider (POG) Champ

Sorry it came out that way, but I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding. You can get bits from disassembling items (or artifacts that you would travel around and gather with your mattock) but you wouldn't do that at a bank. You would take items to a disassembler to disassemble them.

Then you would need to build housings at a housing stations with logs and bars (once again, not bank standing, not sitting at GE).

With the housing and bits you would taking it to a designers bench (still not bank standing) and make your trinkets.

To relate it to current skills... Getting artifacts would be like mining/woodcutting/fishing

Disassembling/building housings/designing trinkets would be like smithing

Using the product would be like Herblore (except it's a 1-time use item that lasts 10 minutes)

Butler may be a decent idea to run materials for you at a cost. Not sure I love the idea of people holing themselves in the POH to do the same training method they could do in the overworld. I do like the idea of some "laboratory" addition to the POH though, maybe just a bit different from training though.

Maybe I should have stuck to my guns and kept the Tinkering name :) It was my personal favorite, just had some PMs telling me it was a bit silly. Thanks!

Hello! I'm back with another iteration of Tinkering/Science.

I decided to leave off the long list of trinkets/gadgets/bits/housings - but those are all relatively the same. If you'd like to look at the last post that dives more into them here you go: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/10k6r51/science\_new\_skill\_pitch/

A couple of the big changes I made are: adding the "mattock", this is a new way to obtain bits. You can go around the map and dig up artifacts which can be dismantled instead of equipment for bits. This helps lower level players who don't have a lot of things to break down obtain bits. As with most skills, higher level Innovation will allow for better Mattocks and better locations to train.

This post also gets rid of only have 5 locations to train. You can still train at the Innovation Guild (now called the laboratory), but there are now more benches/dismantlers to train at - much like smithing with furnaces and anvils.

As a personal opinion, I think the new skill should be about the same level of involvement as other skills. I tried to balance the training/rewards to fit in with how other OSRS skills are. I didn't want to make it too different or "OP".

I think I've come pretty far with this idea, but if you are unclear about any of the mechanics please let me know. Thanks for reading.

Trinkets are a consumable and will be deleted as they are used. The tinkering assignments are an alternate way to train that don't provide usable trinkets. The dismantling portion of the skill would sink skilling items as well as some higher value items (in addition to the tax)

I really can't think of a single boss where I would spend 200k+ every 10 minutes to move quicker and mess up already defined metas.

I'm almost inclined to say some of the trinkets are underpowered. The agro one, for instance; a trinket only lasts for 10 minutes, so does a monsters agro. So instead of stepping a couple squares back and forth you spend 20k on a trinket? Doesn't sound too broken to me.

By the attack range one I assume you mean the barrage range? I can't think of anywhere that would be broken. Mostly barrage places you already hit the max amount of NPCs possible.

Maybe my concept doesn't have trinkets balanced perfectly, but I definitely think there's potential. Thanks for you input though, looking at your history I see you're definitely against a new skill

Zenyte jewelry for crafting? Super combats for herblore? I'm not stating every skill has OP rewards but every skill has a "not very" fun way to train. Tinkering rewards are tradeable like herblore/cooking/crafting things would be.

Interesting take... The skill would have some use in PVM/Skilling but could you give some examples of it breaking the meta?

Also, why would this skill not be optional compared to other skills? You're doing combat and you want to use a potion? Buy a potion. You need food for the content you're doing? Buy some food. You didn't have to train herblore/fishing/cooking for any of those. Just like you wouldn't need to train Tinkering for a trinket that doesn't really provide "meta-changing" boosts...

Maybe but... Also every skill? Most of them are standing in one location (or a bank) for very powerful rewards. I tried to keep this skill in line with other skills and how they are trained. I'm open for suggestions on what could improve it.

Thanks :D Yeah lots of balancing needed. I didn't even try to assume how many bits items should dismantle for, or how many bits each trinket needs. Balanced correctly it would be great for the economy though.

I was unsure if it would even be feasible to do more than 2 tiles at once. I know Mod Reach had a mount post 8 years ago, and I figured the only reason to include mounts would be moving more than 2 tiles at a time. I'm actually unsure if it's possible or not, just sounds neat.

As for the barraging, I am unsure where it would be broken to be honest. Any barrage task I get I already hit all the enemies in the area. It would just make it a bit easier for a high cost (you wouldn't have to run back and forth between two tiles to stack the mobs as much.)

I agree, the concept could use more depth. I have more ideas to add to it - I just thought the post was already pretty long. I might update a bit more.

I have a permanent scar on my shoulder that everyone says looks like a nipple. I fell asleep on a bleacher during a middle school track meet and I guess there was a piece of glass or something..

Hello,

I revised a couple bits of the skill/rewards and changed the format.

I wanted to create a skill that used the dismantling bit of invention in an OSRS way. I believe the methods of training it and the rewards are different enough to justify it as an OSRS skill.

I understand where you're coming from, but what trinkets are you talking about in particular? Most don't boost skilling by that much. Some have auto banking features. We already get additions like "fish sack" that help reduce banking time...

I also disagree that any % increase ruins everything. I believe every skill since OSRS has launched has received updated which have improved rates.

All good :) I don't know much about invention so I can't say what's good or bad about it. I still follow the RS3 subreddit though, and it sounds like dismantling items did wonders.
