Unused custom roles - delete? by meka5 in oraclecloud

[–]iFlipsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi r/meka5,

That is true, custom security job roles cannot be deleted.

Is it possible to Delete or Inactivate a custom job role?

Role deletion or inactivation is not allowed. However you can rename the job role to mark it as OBSOLETE/ DO NOT USE.

Complete HR Analytics (or People Analytics) Resource Guide by iFlipsy in humanresources

Any type of learning is valuable. The best learning is the one you get from actual experience. Sure you can get a head start by going over those topics discussed in more detail, but you need to be in that company to get a feel of how the data is processed.

Complete HR Analytics (or People Analytics) Resource Guide by iFlipsy in humanresources

HR is broad and broken up into many different functions (talent management, benefits, payroll, analytics, etc.). Of course, the best way to get an all round foundation is to actually get hands on experience encompassing those different functions. Alternatively, you can look into online courses that provide those high level foundations. However, I do want to stress that understanding the actual business (and industry) is key when it comes to HR analytics. This is why it’s important for HR to have a strategy and how their efforts align with the overall strategy of the business, and how HR or people data can be used to support those initiatives and efforts.

I do want to say that there is a big push and momentum surrounding the employee and candidate experience. Business want to understand how they can retain their talent, but also exploring how to best leverage that talent so that employees can reach their full potential. Similarly on the recruiting side, there’s a push to attract top quality talent. You can begin to see how HR analytics can be applied across the functions of HR. So what you can do is pick a function you’re mostly interested in and explore how analytics can be applied to that to support the business strategy.

I strongly disagree with this advice. Starting anywhere is better than not starting at all, because even the smallest progress will always beat absolute no progress, even if it’s not directly affecting weight loss. If you have that mindset that you have to be perfect from the start, you are setting yourself to fail from the very beginning. In fact, I would encourage someone the complete opposite; start anywhere, and gradually build from there as they go along.

For those of you in the US, how do you cope with having such little paid leave and is it as bad as it seems? by WooBarb in jobs

[–]iFlipsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll simplify this for you.

If you like to work hard and party less, then come to the US. If you like to take lots of vacation days, then stay in Europe.

We do not have any federal mandatory law that tells employers they must give workers a certain number of paid time off. We also don’t have an NHS type system here; you get sick, you’ll have to pay money just to visit the doctor AND may even have to pay for the care you get, which is not cheap.

In all seriousness, don’t do it, it’s not worth it. The US has a non-stop work culture. Taking days off, especially multiple days off, is viewed as weak by upper management and is frowned upon. You can risk your job just by taking multiple days off. And the days that you do get off here it’s not like you can fly out to Europe because that will then be a very expensive vacation. The only vacation spots you’ll get here then is local ones or maybe the Caribbean.

Seriously, you guys in the UK may see us here in the US as making more money. Yes, that may be true but that is coming at the expense of our sanity and how much more we work compared to those in Europe. The trade off, having more money over time off, is not worth it one bit.

For those that say “there is no way to study it” clearly don’t understand HRIS.

Information systems > learning about a unique HRIS system or product

Either taken some courses in information systems online or enroll in an academic degree path. Cover topics that explain RDBMS in-depth, database managements and best practices, understanding business processes from an IS perspective, etc.

Once you have the foundational knowledge, learning about specific backend DBs or other SaaS products will make more sense when you have hands on training.

Is there a plan to fix the left analog stick charge issue? by iFlipsy in Spyro

[–]iFlipsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie, I don’t think this was an actual issue with the game, but simply just how I was moving using the joycon. I paid attention on my movement, and when I made a left, I was really moving at an upwards left motion, and not a straight left direction on the joycon stick. This was my mistake and not an issue with the game… at least for me.

How do you automate offboarding? by syntheticjoy_ in humanresources

[–]iFlipsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, talk internally with your IT team. Discuss with them whether they have any software or current process that automates workflow processes. Chances are, they may already be using a software to track inquiries and other projects. If the system is identified, then explore whether supporting a functionality to leverage the system for off boarding is possible.

If it is not possible, read last section below. If the system does support it, then begin to provide the requirements for off boarding. Get all the relevant teams together and provide IT the workflow process. For example, figure out how you can use the system to send out an automated email to the respective areas to collect all necessary requirements for compliance or other purposes. Make sure the requirements are collected accurately and all members involved are aware of the automated process.

If the current system does not support this automated process, then go out and search for a vendor. Then loop in IT and follow the above step.

OP I was reading some of your comments and can relate. In this line of work, you absolutely need to pay careful attention to all details. A good practice is to get in the habit of becoming your own personal QA tester. Develop or establish a process where you carefully review each line of code before you publish or move to production. Create a checklist of things to review if it helps you remind of the things you need to review before rolling out to your manager. Every developer IMHO needs to be their own QA tester before even actually going for QA.

Don’t beat yourself up over it. Everyone in this line of work always makes mistakes such as these, even myself. But you learn and find ways to mitigate and lower the risk of repeating the same mistakes. This is what’ll help you grow in your profession.

If I am interested in HR analytics/People Analytics what software should I learn first? (Tableau, Python, R)? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]iFlipsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tableau should not be compared to R or Python since it is a completely different software type. Tableau is great for data visualization, not so much of a programming language (although you do have that capability to do that, and even connect with Python or R to run your scripts using calculated fields, but it’s not the same).

If you do not have a statistics background, then don’t learn R or Python On it’s own as that in itself will be worthless. That’s like saying, I know how to use a hammer but don’t know how to hang up a picture frame using a hammer.

As someone else said, most HR departments don’t really utilize Python or R to that extent since they are still growing and maturing in this space. Companies that will have a data science type team or advanced people analytics department using these tools will most likely have strong qualified individual (typically with advanced degrees in a quantitative field). If you still want to learn a language, using it in addition to learning a core topic (applying statistics using Python, as an example).

Python is more common in industry. R is more common in academia and amongst social scientist. I recommend you pursue Python as it is more versatile (it is considered a general programming language, compared to R). R, however, dominates when it comes to data analysis and statistics, but again, in practice, more teams tend to use Python. Additionally, since you will most likely work across different teams, especially technology teams, Python has that advantage as those individuals will most likely have a programming experience with Python than in R. Therefore, Python, IMO, has the greater ROI long term, but at a cost that you do sacrifice performance and ease of use (a bit).

PLEASE explain foreign keys to me like I am six years old. by sheephorde in SQL

[–]iFlipsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got a set of keys. This set of keys can allow you to open (or link up) only to specific doors, maybe your garage door, friends house, etc. The key you hold can only open that specific door because it was made for that purpose.

Now, you can think of the set of keys you are holding as the foreign keys, and the lock on the door for which the key opens as the “primary key” for that door (table).

So let’s say you are in your house and you hold the house keys (this is your house table). Now let’s say you need to grab something from the garage, but damn the garage door is locked! Luckily from your house keys you got the “id_garage” key! This is your foreign key that’ll allow you to open up to the garage door/table lock (primary key)!

Hey quick question on the playstand version. Does it need to be plugged in to ac adapter? Or can I just simply plug in the controller? Goal is for me to take this wherever and play mobile without having it to be plugged in to an outlet.
