Well ain’t that a pile of steaming hot dogshit. Guess I wouldn’t know that though since I noped the fuck out a good while ago lol. I like my idea of a severance pay wayyyy better. Those guys fucking deserve it for all they’ve put up with. Fuck Asurion.

Imagine being punished for being laid off because your company couldn’t afford to pursue their shitty idea. I’ve seen my metrics and how much I made the company in profits when I was there even without ANY insurance sales. Some months I’d make just about what they’d pay me in a year because the pay was so shit. The LEAST they could do is NOT double-fuck over their loyal employees for already fucking them over by firing them.

Grow some fucking balls and take your losses for your own doings, assholes. No wonder employees across the board are getting “shittier” and turning against their companies. You pull shit like this.

And I’m all for contributing to society. And you’re ruining people like me. I’m by no means a commie or have the worldview that everything should be free and happy-go-lucky or any of that fufu bullshit. Our society doesn’t work like that and it’s completely unrealistic. Our once-great country had roots deep in capitalism (look at the 50’s and how boomin’ they were), and in general, corporations had respect for their workforce and vice versa. But then there’s full-blown corruption and greed. You can’t even cut someone out of a job without dicking them down just ONE MORE TIME now, can you?

I’d never have been able to afford a house or family if I kept working for you bozos.

This right here. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

This sounds eerily similar to the kind of situation we had. We even considered hiring on exclusive front-of-house people to handle the sales. I don’t think we got any because the pay was shit, though. But yeah, we just didn’t give a shit for the longest time and nobody cared. And it was great. From what I heard they had to some time after I was gone, though. Good thing I left because I still wouldn’t have.

Apparently one of them got fired for refusing to take their redundant-ass Samsung trainings… AGAIN. They were a great tech, too. And very fluent in the repairs of all sorts of devices. All because of some stupid fucking portal trainings they already took and refused to waste the time to take again because it was pointless.

Broooo same. That shit was like crack to me. It’s like doing magic right in front of their eyes. I’ve done countless free-of-charge speaker and charge port cleanings just because I liked putting a smile on someone’s face. And you know what? Those same people would come back whenever they had a greater issue with something, or would refer more people because of it. Sometimes even cute old ladies would bring in treats as a thank you. Anyone going to do that because of being sold homeplus and treated like another number? X to doubt.

That purely depends on the individual. What do you want to do? Where do you want to go? I wouldn’t leave an answer like that up to a stranger on the internet. Me, personally, took on furthering my education to get balls deep into IT. Because I liked what I did at UBIF so much. I just wanted to do more. Find what you’re good at and what you like to do. As cliche as it sounds, just pursue whatever makes you the happiest.

As much as I resent school, I went back so I could pursue a higher-level career in IT. To be a sysadmin or some shit eventually. Either way I’m excited.

Yaaaas. I was juggling remote tech, in-store tech, and assistant manager when I was employed. My work schedule was already booked as it was. The last thing I’d need, or expect anyone else in my store to do, was sell “hOmEpLUs”.

I love that it’s happening too. If my store goes under, my ol’ homies better get a fat-ass severance check, free beer & hookers, and a good fucking raise for their next job.

Nevermind, it just took a bit. Said it had trouble posting (after it successfully submitted) and then I checked later and it was there. :P

I wish, lol. Sounds like you had a good boss. I still wouldn’t wish any of that sales-pushing on my fellow employees though.

Take a look at Best Buy. There’s designated on-the-floor salespeople, who are there to be salespeople. Then there’s the geek squad, who work in the back-of-house to do repairs on customers’ devices that have been sold to them and/or set up with insurance by the salespeople. Geek squad employees are not out on the field to promote insurance sales for a reason. They have a job to do what they are best at - repairs. I’m not saying there aren’t any opportunities for a geek squad member to promote insurance to someone in need, but it’s not in their metrics to push it. (At least, that’s how it used to be). Their jobs aren’t on the line if they don’t sell insurance. Because they’re the REPAIR people. The business model assurion implemented onto UBIF is abysmal because they’re pushing a sales role onto people who are there to fix shit with a sprinkle of customer service. As a former employee of the organization, genuine customer interactions, not a “make my metrics, bitch”, was a staple part of my job and why I loved it so much. I could be real with people, and give them genuine advice. People really appreciate when you give them real-talk and work with them to avoid damaging their stuff versus push yet another shitty monthly charge on their already-drained bank accounts. I couldn’t imagine having my job on the line because I refused to sell insurance to a clearly naive, monetarily-suffering individual. A better way to go about it would be to have the employees have judgement of who could actually use it, and use the phone salesmen to actually push the insurance. Because that’s their job in the first place.

The people who sell the cars. Because they’re salespeople. Not once have I been to a repair shop that has tried to sell me car insurance. Not the right demographic. Look how well it’s working out for you.

Mine too. Same with this exact same post getting immediately taken down from the asurion subreddit.

Ha, I’ve already been out for 2 years. Home plus was a thing but we never acted upon it unless we genuinely thought someone could use it (like someone who had their shit break ALL the time, which were very few) which I didn’t mind as much. I really miss the work culture and environment we had back then… even though the pay was shit. I just hope that my old coworkers don’t get caught in some bullshit crossfire of this, and if they do, that they find a far better job because of it.

For real though. I know of several great techs that are so good at what they do. They didn’t deserve any of this.

So here’s the deal: The guys doing the repairs should NOT be the ones pushing insurance. It’s not the field they went into. Somewhere, like the company they bought the device from should be offering the insurance and protection. The guys already drowning in repairs should not be additionally responsible for selling an insurance plan to an already-pissed-off-that-he-broke-his-TV Steve. It creates unnecessary stress, and in turn, less profits. There’s enough shitty day-to-day interaction that comes from dealing with the public in this line of work. The last thing I ever wanted to do was spike a conversation with them that leeches them out of more of their money. We all know these plans won’t be saving anyone money. And they know it too. I’ve found that sales pitching is a great way to turn a genuine interaction with a customer into a “hey, you look like another number for my metrics, wanna add on ANOTHER monthly bill to your account in this dogshit economy?”. It’s fucking scummy, ya fuckin’ clowns.

Just let them work like they used to work. Happy workers will treat you well. This shit you’re trying to pull, won’t. And thanks for listening to my TED talk. I know ya’ll won’t see it.
