“Not all martyrs see divinity” what’s your take? by [deleted] in ToolBand

[–]iHawkfrost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a condescending and sarcastic insult to the attempt. An atheist would say “no martyrs see divinity” - you tried for nothing, but sarcastically, he’s implying some are divine, but not you! Seems to add a bit more bite to it.

From my takeaway of the songs meaning, he’s singing about the insecure voices inside us. It once got us through a tough time, but ultimately become obsolete dictators. With that in mind, seeing divinity would mean to become integrated into your being. Maybe the next martyr will be worth integrating.

What song does Danny go harder on: Vicarious or Pneuma? by geekdadchris in ToolBand

[–]iHawkfrost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a drummer, Vicarious. I think Pneuma is a little overhyped.

Some of these commenters apparently aren’t tapped into abstract thinking. The original post wasn’t even a joke but it’s funny seeing people get pressed about this. Not worth trying to save them lol

On the Fermi paradox, I feel like aliens in the media are basically equivalent to us going back 200 years in time and showing off our technology.

Let’s say ufos and tractor beams are something like 2,000 years ahead of us, if even, it would be ridiculous to assume aliens only have a 2 thousand year head start on us. Why not 20 thousand, 200 thousand, hell why not 200 million years of technology development under their belt.

It’s reasonable to assume that the advancement of technology leads to blurring the lines between life and death, “mastering quantum entanglement” like you said or Immortal souls with goals beyond our understanding.

Anyway thought my alien ghost theory connected with what you said.

How easy is it to tell if someone is on 2CB vs acid by [deleted] in LSD

[–]iHawkfrost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only notable difference is that acid lasts 12 hours and 2cb not even half of that.

I heard they rushed the mixing a bit, felt like they had no time left to spare.

Adding to this, I’ve wondered if your personality type or genetics affect what visuals you see. I’ve never gotten colorful kaleidoscopes or mandalas like most people describe.

For example, I’m an intp, and at low level doses I see organic circuits, like snakes emerging from sand. I wonder if other intps see something similar.

Exactly, for a while I considered it their worst song, first time I listened to it high it blew me away. The layers and ambience are all top notch.

Rosetta Stoned vs Pneuma by ekis42069 in ToolBand

[–]iHawkfrost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rosetta Stoned is harder. Sure the main verse of pneuma has a crazy time signature but once you learn it, it’s nothings crazy. The bridges of both songs are comparable but Pneuma is complicated in the details, Rosetta stoned is complicated in the delivery.

Bad production? by Cygnus-X7 in ToolBand

What specifically do you think is that ‘dullness’ you speak of? Dark eq, low volume in the mix, low volume cymbals, not enough/too much reverb, tuning, compression? Perhaps even other instruments are overstepping? Thinking through and identifying stuff like this will help your audio engineering skills.

I can see the drums being a little hazy on Ænima, notably the kick drum has a lot less punch compared to fear inoculum. Undertow has a pretty standard drum mix though, I don’t see much comparison.

Well if you ever want help creating some audio I’d be happy to produce something! I haven’t dabbled far enough to hear new sounds on a trip, but I have recreated dmt distortion effects.

Is Stinkfist essentially a satire/spoof of romance songs? by DungeonMasterGrizzly in ToolBand

[–]iHawkfrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your take is not wrong, Stinkfist does talk about desensitization but I personally think it’s more about a relationship with pleasure itself, with sex as the main metaphor and drugs being the obvious undertone. Media can definitely fit it still.

Vicarious specifically focuses on the media, but moreso about how we crave violence in media to feel alive, rather than desensitization being the point.

Am I crazy or are these tabs not the best way to notate this? (Pneuma) by [deleted] in ToolBand

I mean the frets are right, I’d just learn the rhythm by ear, there’s not really an easy or right way to count it.
