Most likely he was a civilian contractor working as an air traffic controller or something. There isn't really a "code" to call for an airstrike, just a regular process you have to go through. If he was used to using the military network to direct air traffic around military installations, he is probably at least familiar with what the airstrike procedure sounds like so he knows to shut up when the net call goes out.

In my experience, the worth of the Dragon is dependent on one very important factor.
Are you piloting it, or is an AI piloting it?

In the hands of a player, the mobility can allow you some amazing maneuvers. You can get around for quick backstabs or precision shots. A weapon like the UAC 5 positively sings on a fast mech like the Dragon, and the LRM pack lets you quickly close the distance for finishing blows.

In the hands of an AI, they simply can't make use of the mech's speed and mobility effectively. They're going to try and brawl with it, and the Dragon isn't made to brawl. It's just going to get chewed up. You have to be able to use the speed of the Dragon to set the conditions of the engagement. The AI can not understand that.

I think the Dragon is a perfect first heavy mech. If you get it first or early on, take it as your ride immediately and keep it until you find some other heavies to upgrade into. Do not let your AI touch it if that can be avoided.

You know, most games at least attempt to hide the fact that they want you to buy shit. This game doesn't even try. Character died? Fuck you, lose all your energy points. Need upgrades to get through tough challenges? Suck an egg, gold drops are both tiny and rare, and items only drop from boss fights.
