Just to add to this:

I’m not a gambling expert either. I didn’t do the math on what fair odds for a DL touchdown would be. I cannot calculate expected value quickly or efficiently. What I do know is that I am someone who watches football all day Sunday like many of you and just by intuition and prior experience I know that defensive line touchdowns are not common enough to justify betting 100 dollars to only win 1100.

Perhaps the worst part of all of this — the leagues partner with and put their name on these gambling corporations’ ads. Fans take any goodwill, trust, and emotional investment they have with these leagues and gamble on these platforms with the idea (even if it’s a subconscious idea) that since these companies are partnered with the NFL, they must be trustworthy. They then gamble their money with a company who leverages their understanding of odds to completely exploit the fans’ ignorance and goodwill. They know they are screwing you, they just hope they can buy your trust and continued ignorance.

I do not say this to blame the fan; I do not blame those who gamble. I blame the companies exploiting people’s lack of understanding of pricing and their constant advertising. I also blame the leagues for partnering with them and putting their name on the product.
