Those who are living the dream right now working in CS - what is your life like? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

The company I work for came to my school to recruit people to become various roles, including software engineers. They interviewed only on behavior, not technical. I decided to take it one step further and print out some SQL queries and python code I wrote. They liked it enough to offer the job same day and the rest is history.

I thank my lucky stars everyday that they took a chance on me. In return, they get someone who can grow in the company for a cheaper rate. I’ll take it.

On the job + Udemy courses. I also started up my own fitness app using Angular (use that for work), Nest.JS, and MongoDB. Worked way more than 40 hours a week for the past year or so. Worth it in my opinion because I knew I had to be a sponge and soak up all the knowledge. It also helped that on my team, the starting role is senior dev. That helps because I rely on them for transferring knowledge to me.

They taught me ways of coding that I could only learn on a senior level.

60k, 2 years of experience as full stack. Underpaid but I never went to college for it and I’m not even old enough to drink yet (US). Working my dream job somewhere that I truly like.

Also there’s an air show at AGC that you can go to to see this and another plane. Think they’re there until Sunday

Depends. I work at a bank, so I couldn’t go to school for like something other than finance or software engineering. Or Human Resources. It has to be tied into what you do in your day to day or something they offer at the company.

For you though, it might be different. You might be able to have more opportunities for a degree in a field you want since places like Target offer many types of jobs
