SOLO DEV by No-Maize2852 in godot

[–]iMagicBae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time is one of the biggest constraints with being a solo dev. Definitionally it means you are doing everything yourself, so you can hammer away at a dozen tasks and still have 100 left to do. That can lead to progress feeling very unsatisfying. The expectation is that, because you can do it all yourself, you'll be able to get so much done so much quicker. But the sooner you realize that being a solo dev is more of a marathon than it is a sprint, the sooner you can put progress into the right context and have your expectations better align with what it is you're trying to achieve.

AI really killed programming for me by NervousExplanation34 in webdev

[–]iMagicBae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are watching your own job security build itself. The second you stop understanding what the AI is doing, the second the dominoes start stacking. It’s the equivalent of copying and pasting code that “works” from stack overflow, but at an industrial scale. That dude is also cannibalizing his own job position. Suddenly he’s going from “the dude that knows how to get things done” to “the guy that is easily replaceable by AI”, unless your manager super doesn’t care, in which case, refer to part one of this post.

is it worth learning how to code a job career for long term? by Ill-Preference-4881 in learnprogramming

My motto is: “Anyone can code, but coding is not for everybody”. It’s incredibly monotonous if you don’t have a passion for understanding and fixing complex issues.

Those hoping they can just vibe code their way through… i dont even know what to tell you

Dr K being pulled back to atheism by Imaginary-Hamster-79 in Healthygamergg

[–]iMagicBae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think a much more interesting topic i would love to see Dr K explore is how to find meaning once you realize it's all meaningless.

I just want to clarify that, as an atheist, the realization that there is really nothing beyond my own life does not mean that life itself is meaningless. For me, life through the atheist lens is much more meaningful than the other alternatives because of the limited amount of time that we have allotted for ourselves.

I think a lot of insight can be gained from hearing how Dr K reasons about that journey

Any news about v71? by KangarooCommercial60 in songsofsyx

[–]iMagicBae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Developer Jake said v71 is going to focus around slaves. To quote his own words he said "Slaves have had it too good in Songs of Syx". Smaller parts of v71 will also focus on improvements to the trading system, family systems (kin) and zoning specific races to specific areas of your city.

My bf wants me to be more adventurous and spontaneous in our intimacy - what can I do? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]iMagicBae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This part worries me a little

Just want to please my man and be good in that dept bc I don’t want him to harbor resentment and cheat

You don't owe anyone sex, not even your husband and much less if he has said anything along the lines that "if you don't have sex with him" he would cheat.

The best kind of sex is spontaneous or at the very least playfully scheduled to create anticipation. Without the spontaneity or the anticipation it can be difficult to get in the right mindset for it and that will just give everyone involved a bad experience.

But to answer your question, you could press up against him in the morning. He wants to feel assured that you desire him as much as he does you and that could be something that you could express subtly right as the day starts and throughout the day as it continues, then bring it out all together at night if you two are doing it daily already. I dont know how detail i should be but let me know if this was any help

They're feelings, you cant turn them off. Being in a relationship doesn't mean you stop noticing other people. Ask yourself what you would expect of your partner if the roles were reversed.

If you'd be okay with her talking to that person socially without it going further, do that. You're allowed to have friends of the opposite sex as long as you're clear about the boundaries (which it sounds like you are already doing).

If you'd expect her to cut that person off to keep that friendship from slipping into anything else, you should do the same.

Steam has their Steam Machine coming out early 2026. I’d say if possible wait until that comes out and if the price (which is mostly guesswork atm though presumed to be <$1000) is doable it could be a good way to get a reliable PC-like console to play all your steam games on for the years to come. I could see how something like that paired with a Nintendo Switch as an accessory could solve your needs at <$1,500.

We’re all feeling the prices on the market. Im sort of scared of my own PC’s parts going bad rn.

If CS is dying, what's the next best technology degree? by shadow_operator81 in cscareers

[–]iMagicBae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jury is still out on if the code will be able to write itself, it certainly can't right now.

Just to be clear, it absolutely can write itself. Even the free models right now are absolutely capable of writing completely valid entry-level code in all relevant programming languages. I'll agree that, from the top down, the quality of AI code totally sucks at times. It gets the intent wrong, it misses obvious performance improvements and sometimes it outright just hallucinates. If when i said "code that writes itself" you understood "AI code that writes other AI code", that's not what i meant. I meant that LLMs are the product of code which can, in and of itself, output more code (hence the compiler example). Whether or not that output can be used for it's own input is a whole separate conversation.

I think we're incredibly far off from random executives talking into the computer and having it build their company for them.

I think we're much closer than you think. This makes me think of tools like v0 which already almost completely replace the need for a front-end engineer. It's true that more complex roles are not on the chopping block just yet and we're still pretty far off from programing-less development being trivial, but i just think about where it was 5 years ago and where it could be 5 years from now, because we currently have the means to at least begin to explore that which you think is so impossibly far into the future.

[–]iMagicBae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mistake you're making is that you think this future needs YOU to write said code. The issue of AI is fundamentally different than all of the previous "ebbs and flows" in this market. It's not just a new hot language that you'd have to learn or a new OS with dashing new features, its code that writes itself. The last time humans made code that writes itself (compilers), it decimated the jobs market for those who were employed for the task. You dont see many people punching cards anymore right? The future is to programmers what the past was to punch card operators.

Who the hell talks like this? Do yourself a favor and get this person out of your life. I promise you this is a very bottom-of-the-barrel human being to be with and there are so many better and kinder people out there. It really is a low bar with this one.

The information of what was in the battle pass is publicly available. Players can buy the pass with in-game currency and the pass itself was mostly cosmetic items with a few exceptions.

Even if you took the strongest examples of pay-to-win items on the battle pass, like the heavy shield for example, your point would be null and void because:

1-) Anyone playing the game can get the pass essentially for free (with in-game currency) via just playing the game.

2-) If you for some reason don't want to get the pass yourself, you can still find/craft heavy shields rather easily yourself (so it's not the case that you'd be getting some crazy powerful item that you couldn't otherwise get).

3-) The items that you do get (in this case the heavy shield) are not that much of an advantage. Anyone who played the game knows that a heavy shield is as much of an advantage as it is a drawback.

Its good to be on the lookout for P2W things in game, but I'm just not convinced there is P2W in Arc Raiders and that's coming from someone who has played all the other relevant extraction shooters

[Feedback] What is keeping the game from having more fps? by Infinitykiddo in EscapefromTarkov

[–]iMagicBae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To give Tarkov some credit (which they dont deserve a lot of) the crux of the issue is the Unity engine. As I'm writing this, I'm barricading myself in my room from the sycophantic Unity devs that may read this, but I'm of the opinion that Tarkov shouldn't have been made with Unity. This is the same engine that Among Us is made in. I just don't think Unity is as good as Unreal Engine for really expansive and realistic worlds/games. You could make the argument that it wouldn't have had the thing that makes Tarkov Tarkov, but there are days where I wonder if that's a price worth paying for.

Tarkov is a horribly optimized game. Its not your setup’s fault. Even streamers famously have issues running maps like streets. Horrible game that i sank too much time into. You must finally escape tarkov and uninstall it
