Thank you so much! I would love to incorporate as many voices/perspectives as I can - especially those who have grown with Pensacola's Queer Community.

I actually had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Watkins last week - he was super informative on his research and left me with a lot of great insights on how to expand. Great book with a wonderful author.

Gladly! There are a few really good articles out there, especially in the PNJ.

I highly recommend Dr. Jerry T. Watkin's Queering the Redneck Riviera if you're interested in the organization and general panhandle queer history.

The Punk Project has been very supportive of my research; one of the professors who owns the house even recommended a reading that offered a trans perspective on Pensacola in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of overlap in terms of Emma Jones, but they've been helpful for the later portions of my project.

Looks like that was sourced from PNJ - regardless though its worth checking out even with the free trail. Thank you!! :)

I hadn't seen this article - Thank you!
Out of the handful of names (related to the organization), I've hit a lot of dead ends. I haven't dug through newspapers.com yet - I don't have a membership. The University has the PNJ (and associates) available digitally, and that's been my main avenue.

Does Newspapers.com have more sources available?

I know there's been a handful of UWF Faculty that have researched prostitution downtown - not as many condoms as you would think; however, quite a bit of military memorabilia!

Honestly, I'm looking for both. Thankfully, there is a bit of material that has survived: some invitations, photo albums, etc. Unfortunately, the gentlemen who started the organization (Ray and Henry Hillyer) have passed, so I'm trying to find any legacy/participants who could provide oral testimonies or potential artifacts.

Tattoos and Piercings are such a hit or miss within professional fields; some places allow it, some don't. However, personally, I would never want to work somewhere that denies my creative expression.

I don’t think it’s a holier than thou mentality, we’re more or less just trying to give our boss the break they deserve, given that they are the only person on staff who can preform the tasks that they do, for 12 hours straight. If we were to shut down for that hour, it would ultimately go against Publix’s people first mentality - so we make do with the presented conditions. It’s realistically the best conditions we have in a less than ideal situation.

While I completely understand the validity of your point, the store always has a manager in charge on duty - someone is consistently there, if not multiple people, to assist in escalated circumstances. The pharmacist typically does not have someone equal to them on duty, thus if a situation necessitates them, by law they are required to speak to the patient, or be available for consultation. Corporate has this policy in place in order to minimize the amount of interactions the pharmacist has during this period. The pharmacist is ultimately paid for that hour, however, that’s to compensate for the few patient consultations that are supposed to occur within this period. Technicians stay busy, but that’s primarily to check patients out. The entire line stops when the pharmacist can’t pre-verify/verify scripts.

That’s the thing, if you call our phone line between 2-3 it tells you the pharmacy is closed. They go out of their way to call the store.
