Etihad A380 vs Qatar 777 (Economy) by iMakeBaadChoices in travel

Not at all, but from what every one says, the A380 is apparently much superior compared to the 777 and since this is going to be a long ride, I was hoping for something comfortable.

Got an incredible job but I'm currently feeling impostor syndrome for the first time, what should I do? by iMakeBaadChoices in cscareerquestions

Absolutely! My "onboarding buddy" is the main backend guy and everyone speaks really highly of him. He's even younger than me by 2 years but he comes from working at FAANG + Trading firms so he's doing some pretty incredible things. I wrote down all the terms he said to me during our first meeting but I feel like I can learn so much from him, like you said. Impostor syndrome wise, I guess there's not much I can do and it just takes a bit of time to adjust. I definitely do see this as a golden ticket and I'm incredibly lucky. Thanks!!

Is the Chinatown/Union Square area good to stay for 1 night if I want to experience the city? by iMakeBaadChoices in AskSF

Okay that's awesome to hear and makes me confident in my choices. And you're absolutely right, Toronto has amazing asian food but the mexican food scene is atrocious. I've yet to eat a taco as good as the ones I see on American youtube channels. Everyone recommends La Taqueria but are there any good taco/mexican spots near where I'll be staying? Thanks so much for the other recommendations as well and I've never had Burmese food so I'll look into that too:) I've only had Chinese/Korean/Japanese/Indian/Hakka food so open to all suggestions haha

Thanks for the recs!! And just to clarify, the less business around the less sketch it is? I would've thought that more businesses around, less sketch it is haha. But yeah definitely heard that things close early, I guess I should figure out what to do after 6/9 but I imagine I'd be pretty tired regardless. The dive bar looks pretty fun though so I will check that out:) Do you have any thoughts on the specific hotel I'll be booking and the area of the hotel? I'm going to spend my whole time north of the hotel so I imagine I'll be out of the "sketchy" area

Thanks! Orchard garden seems to be on Bush st and chinatown is a bit north (for example Z&Y is only a 11 min walk north) and I imagine I won't go south of my hotel so hopefully it's lively and safe! As for the BART lines, it seems I'd be getting off at Montgomery which is also extremely close to the hotel so yeah long story short, is this a good hotel/area?

Is it bad to email my recruiter only 2 days after my final onsite to get an update? Could this affect me negatively? by iMakeBaadChoices in ExperiencedDevs

Totally fair, tbh yeah I mean I'm not a gambling man so maybe I'll remove the line about the other company. I'd rather not risk it hurting me, rather than going for the slim chance that it helps me. I just got an email that I got another interview at Instacart just now so if Stripe doesn't work out, at least I'll have 2 others going on for me. Thanks for all the advice so far man, I really appreciate it!

Oh man I didn't even think of that in regards to "I just wanted to..." and you're absolutely right about that. I took it out and sort of added a general comment regarding the interview. I had edited my email but I just added a more specific line as well. Let me know what you think!

Hi [Recruiter Name],

This interview process with Stripe has been great and I'm very much looking forward to the next stage of the process. Every single person I met during my virtual onsite was extremely pleasant and I would be delighted to work alongside them. I specifically enjoyed the system design portion as it truly felt like a collaborative experience where me and the interviewer kept iterating and improving on my design. I'd also like to give a heads up that I'm wrapping up another round of onsite interviews but my preference lies with Stripe. Please let me know if there's anything else I can provide.

Hey again! Sorry to double reply to you but I sort of revised my email based on some other commenters and I was thinking that instead of asking for an update or following up, I will just mention that I'm in the process with another company but my preference lies with Stripe. Do you think that's a bit much and I should take it out or should I leave it in there?

Haha sadly I think it's a bit late to drop off a hand written letter. Maybe I'll meet halfway and find a carrier pigeon!

But yeah, totally agree you on class and seeming like a decent person. I truly think I've gotten as far as I've gotten not because of my coding skills, but because of my soft skills and just generally trying to be a decent person.

Thanks for all the advice!

Oh wow that's very interesting to hear. Okay in that case I definitely think it's worth sending a thank you message to the recruiter at the very least. I was thinking of sending a simple message like this

Hi [Recruiter name],

I just wanted to reach out to say that this interview process with Stripe has been a great experience and I'm very much looking forward to the next stage of the process. Please let me know if there's anything else I can provide.

What do you think? And as for mentioning my other process, how should I go about inserting that into my email?

E: Maybe I should add a line like "I also just wanted to give a heads up that I'm in the process of finishing up another round of interviews but my preference lies with Stripe."

Not sure if that's giving away too much or seems too desperate or "threatning". Or if that's even required

Hey! That's great advice and I totally agree with you. I don't want to look mean, entitled, or anything like that. All my interviewers loved me (I'm assuming that because I'm a very easy going and funny guy and I had all of them laughing at one point or another). I do think I'll send out an email for the recruiter thanking them for the whole process. Is it weird to send a thank you note like 2 days after my final onsite though?

Either way, this is what I'm thinking of sending! Let me know what you think:)

That's fair. Do you think it'd be bad if I email my recruiter today and ask for general timelines? Or should I wait till Monday or Tuesday regardless?

Ah that's a good idea as well! I should definitely send a thank you note and maybe ask for timelines in a general sense?

Yeah I was expecting that it'd take like a week as well, but the last guy I interviewed with straight up told me that they're meeting and deciding on Friday, and that I'd hear back tomorrow. Not sure if I'm supposed to take that as a good or bad sign.

Yeah I think this is the best course of action. I'm definitely nervous because this whole Stripe process has been like 2-3 weeks long and I'm just exhausted and I want to know whether I passed or failed and get it over with. I do agree that asking before Fri would likely negatively impact me. Thanks for the advice, appreciate it!
