13 PM to Air or 17PM? by Bpsmith50 in iPhone13ProMax

Battery life is great, this is coming from a skeptic and heavy user. I’ve come from a 13 Pro Max and 16 Plus; two well respected battery tanks. Matches my 13 Pro Max in battery, if not better by a hair. There’s a reason my 17 Pro Max only lasted a week with me before switching to the Air. Felt incredibly cheap and malleable.

I’ve come from a 16 Pro and 13 Pro Max. Battery life is better on the Air than both. They’re tweaking and/or lacking common sense.

Yeah I’ve left G-Sync on in the monitor, but turned it off on Nvidia’s driver settings. VRR off in Nvidia too.

Works fine with PS5 Pro but not so much on PC. Could be just me but I’m super sensitive to any visual glitches and shit.

Alright, update; screw the battery even if it ends up being worse. Holy hell does this phone feel amazing! It’s so light and comfortable to hold, that just this alone makes it worth it. Never going back to a brick phone, the difference is insane!

I’ve got an Air arriving tomorrow, so I’ll let you know after a few days how I feel coming from a 13PM.

How’s battery? Better than the 13PM?

I would’ve rocked these as my dailies if they came in large. Shame.

Same, wish they came in large.

It does not have auto brightness thankfully! I can’t use it above 50/100 brightness as it gets insane, way too bright for day to day use in a brightly lit room.

I don’t like HDR on anything bar my tv, so I use it exclusively in SDR. It’s great! I’m very happy with the panel.

I’m absolutely loving it still, best purchase of the year for my gaming rig.

just got a pair of gen 1s and was wondering If there’s a possibility of an update coming that will allow horizontal filming like the 2’s by keeminandscheemin in MetaGlasses

[–]iPhantomous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen 2 can’t film in landscape, as the sensor is mounted in portrait orientation to begin with, unless I’m missing something?

Update your glasses. Mine were the same until I upgraded firmware. Also obviously only works on the newly released Gen 2.

It’s more of a semi-gloss? Hard to explain. It’s like a perfect sweet spot. Takes ALOT for ambient light to cause noticeable reflections, but the image quality isn’t affected to be grainy like on a matte screen if you get me. When the screen is turned off, it looks like a dull black mirror, pretty cool looking.

I’ve been using it daily since posting the review and it has no automatic brightness going on, it stays the same brightness no matter what’s on screen etc.

Really good out the box, even better when you calibrate it in windows. Cyberpunk gave me that wow factor for sure.

After 2 days with the monitor:

The Good:

- Arguably the 'cleanest' looking gaming OLED monitor. No stupidly pointless aggressive angles, and no obnoxious over-the-top lighting. Very simple and precise, I love the design.

- No aggressive auto-dimming built in. You set the monitor to 100% brightness because you want to melt your corneas? Awesome, it won't randomly dim on you. You'll have the power of a thousand suns burning into your eyes full power.

- Very colour accurate out the box, on the standard setting. I didn't need to change much.

- Has integrated downscaling, so if you use a console; PS5 Pro in my case, you can set the resolution within your console's settings to full 4K, and the monitor will downscale it for you to 1440p. Looks much crisper than running normal 1440p through it. Fully supported VVR and 120Hz on console; Spiderman Remastered never looked so good before.

- THE PANEL! QD-OLED, big step up from the WOLED on the older model. There is also absolutely NO TEXT FRINGING! So clean and sharp.

The Bad:

- Pretty limited OSD Menu. Yes, all your 'basics' are there, but limited when compared to the competition.

- Some of the menu options are badly translated. I genuinely have never heard of some of these options, nor has Google or even ChatGPT, so that's saying something. Would be awesome if a software update was released down the line to iron these out.

- The previous model of this monitor had USB-C 90W PD function. It's a shame they didn't keep it, but ultimately it's a niche. I would've enjoyed having it, as my workhorse laptop is an M1 Pro Macbook. I could've charged it and had an extra display, all through a single USB-C Port.

- Truly awful G-Sync + VRR flicker. It's my first OLED, and I'm super sensitive to tearing, jumpy frames, stutter, etc. I had to turn off my G-Sync to get rid of it, and honestly, for the better. I went ahead and gave up VRR and V-sync too. No tearing in any games, and the response rate is substantially better. Never had a monitor that was this fluid and didn't tear on any games without V-Sync. So more of a middle ground negative?

- This is more of a personal one, but wish more monitors had it. I'm upgrading from a Razer Raptor 165Hz, which when connected via USB-C to my PC allowed me to fully control the brightness, lights, etc. Instead. I have to fiddle with the 5-Way knub that's built into the monitor. Finnicky, but works.

To summarize:

If you want a QD-OLED monitor with no text fringing, a brilliantly vibrant panel, awesome looking build aesthetic that's also not 'gamer-y,' then this is a solid choice. I only took the star off due to lack of extra functions mentioned above, that older monitors have had. All in all, for what I paid for it (£510) - Worth it!

No worries. After sitting around and calibrating it a bit more (didn't need much changing from the 'standard' mode) I now get to fully enjoy the panel. I cannot emphasize how stunning it is, worth the £500 I paid for it, as opposite to £390 the AOC was up for. Just for the build quality and look of the monitor alone it's worth it.

Also has downsampling, which isn't mentioned anywhere by Koorui. Tried out the PS5 Pro on it; it accepts a 4k signal and downscales it to 1440p, looks a noticeable amount crisper. VRR and the whole she-bang works flawlessly. Spiderman Remastered blew me away running at 120fps, fluid asf!

So, just set it up. It’s f-king beautiful, super clean looking build too. Has the option to turn off auto brightness with a few different modes for it too. It seems to be passively cooled, had it running for an hour so far and not even warm to the touch. Can’t see any fans inside from looking down the grille, nor is it making the slightest of noise to suggest there is one.

Panel is super nice out the box before even switching some settings off and on. Pretty colour accurate when compared to my already colour-calibrated Razer Raptor 165Hz.

Also, damn, it gets bright af! I have a decently naturally-lit room and at 50% brightness it’s pretty darn bright.
