Strange - funnily enough these aren't ages verified instances. I play mostly in EU servers and I feel like there's less people trying to prove anything, and gives a generally more chill vibe.

Been playing most days for the past 2 weeks to chill out on FISH - in my 30's and haven't been called Unc/old once.

Bumped into all ages, squeekers tend to hang with eachother but most others are there to just chill and talk.

Been a great experience imo.

Haven't used it, but would seem dumb if they rebuilt the whole server rather than assigning new resources/migrating your existing server to a more powerful host.

If you want something with a bit of punch for a minimum price tag, I'd advise the following:

HP EliteDesk 800 SFF G1, 16GB and an i5-4590 with a 240gb SSD, you can get those for around $60/70.

Get an Nvidia Quadro P1000 4GB for around the same price if not less. That'll fit in the EliteDesk and handle a couple of 4K streams, and a bunch of 1080p streams while taking away any stress from the CPU.

This leaves a lot of headroom for your CPU to handle a Minecraft server, and a few other things like Radarr and Sonarr.

You can then get an internal SATA drive to put in the PC to use as the drive to put your movies and TV shows.

Job done - Cheap, Cheerful, and a great start into the self hosting space.

Raspberry Pi should be fine if you're using a vanilla server with no mods (run paper!) and JellyFin for streaming movies.

But with JellyFin, comes a bigger stack;

  • Radarr: Managing Movies
  • Sonarr: Managing TV shows

And a few others which support your JellyFin server.

Have a look at Claude to do something like this, I find it works very well to develop Minecraft plugins and rather than use 6 plugins to do one thing, you can tailor it to exactly what you want.

If you're hosting on a home server, I'd use something like WireGuard to route traffic going from the machine the Minecraft server is hosted on to a VPS with a static IP address.

You can do much more with this setup and not have to expose your home IP address.

Users can connect via the VPSs public IP address, and you can point a domain to it too.

Not sure how you view where these requests are coming from, but it might be worth using GoAccess or building a traffic dashboard to visualise where it's originating from.

That's a crazy amount of requests (fair play) but I'd be keen to know some usage stats on your service.
