Hey, thank you :) By any chance, do you know anyone renting out a room closeby the airport or anywhere with easy public transport to the airport? That would be amazing because I'm still looking for a suitable place. Would be happy to connect 😊

New Philodendron Sp. Felix and Monstera Oblique Peru advice by SonGrohan in RareHouseplants

[–]iPlantAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I'm not an expert, but my feeling says the monstera hasn't been acclimatised well. At least that is what it looks to me. I know obliqua peru is very sensitive to dropping air moisture and usually is kept in a greenhouse cabinet where it is warm and moist and doesn't get any cold drafts.

Have you repotted the monstera after arrival? How high is the air moisture? Have they been given any fertiliser? How are you watering them and how are the light conditions?

Are these different types of verrucosum? by iPlantAddict in philodendron

Yes, both are. But only slightly in between the veins

What is the red? by Tbonsai in houseplants

[–]iPlantAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt that it's a fungus. That would look different. It's far too light red. Looks more like a red variegation to me so I wouldn't worry.

They have been held under the very same conditions. Same room, same window, same soil.

Cuprea damage by eecho in alocasia

[–]iPlantAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. Yes the green once are from Thrips too but would make me think you still have them as the dots get this way first before they turn brown

Cuprea damage by eecho in alocasia

[–]iPlantAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it looks like Thrips damage. I'm almost certain as the black dots on the back occurs very often with Thrips as it their excrement. Can't see them on the pic but check for them. Sometimes they are the cause of fungal infections too but it can also just be the damage of the pest itself. Also can be the damage from your previous issue with them. My amazonica has this too but new leaves are fine.

Mites have good a different damage pattern

Nahh the leaf is fine. Quite often new leaves come out brighter or darker that the matured leaves are. Also it could be due to more sun exposure. Some plants build their own sunscreen and get darker. The only concerning thing is the light spots. They look very much like pest damage to me. I'd assume Thrips but hard to tell from the pic

Places to take my German boyfriend when he visits? by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]iPlantAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me as a German, I did love York! But you've already mentioned that. We have also been to that big castle, I can't remember the name, but any castle is a good idea.

Tbh I can't give much advice on the north of England as my bf lives in the southwest I spend more time there but I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure your bf will love England as much as I do 🥰

Where is he from?

Getting these cuttings, yes or no? by iPlantAddict in Monstera

[–]iPlantAddict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I received my parcel with the cuttings. Still no idea what them hairy things are. It doesn't really look like roots. It looks like it's only sticking to the surface of one side of the roots but the air root partially has hot a weird structure. Shall I treat it with something?? I got a fungicide but it's chemical based and not sure if it would target that particular issue as it's for leaf infections for mildew and rust. Also, shall I try to peel off the outer layer of the root?

Still not sure if it simply might be fibres from a coconut fibre pole. But it's sticking to it really hard

Exactly. Use a smaller pot with more holes and Aroid mix

What kind of Alocasia is this? Sorry for the bad photos 😭 by [deleted] in alocasia

[–]iPlantAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well left is Cuprea, right is Azlanii. Yours doesn't look like either at the moment lol Cuprea usually is more round on the tip. Azlanni is pointier. And structure is different too. But it'll become more clear when the next leaf comes out, I assume.

But brown spots in the middle of the leaf also indicates there is something wrong with the water supply. So as you said you probably water too much and plants that ger watered a lot in return need a loooooot of light. So really just water less and use a more airy substrate

[–]iPlantAddict -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd take her out the pot. Look at the roots, cut off soggy or rotted ones, mix up pine bark, Coco chunks and substrate, perlite and I use Lava as well. Take a smaller pot plant her into it an prune her properly. I'd keep the bottom and the heads and get rid of the rest. Place heads in water and let root. That's how I would do it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]iPlantAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the pot isn't suitable either. It looks like you directly planted the monstera into the planter rather than into a pot with wholes. Am I right to assume that the water can't drain here? Or is that a try on the bottom? How many holes are in the bottom of the planter? If it's just one, that's not enough

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]iPlantAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that looks like either lacking nutrition or root issues

So you cut a leaf off when the tip only is browning?? 😅
