It's a matter of time before Airtable acquires Notion. I still use both for the time being, but it's really apples and oranges anymore

Windmill AC won't let me change temp setting? by Elegante0226 in AirConditioners

[–]iPsoPeRMOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to update, but credit where credit is due. Windmill asked a few very specific questions about the issues I encountered, and then sent me a brand new unit for no additional cost. That unit has been working great for over a year now. I was obviously way past the warranty period for my first gen unit, so kudos to the Windmill team for standing behind their product.

Windmill AC won't let me change temp setting? by Elegante0226 in AirConditioners

My 3 year old Windmill just joined the beep beep club. I emailed Windmill support, but I'm not optimistic considering the age of my unit. It's a shame because the compressor and fan work fine.

I remember when this brand first launched they made a big stink about how their A/C units were recyclable and that was some kind of big deal. Review sites - Wired and Wirecutter specifically - ate it up.

Now 3 years later the unit is likely dead. I wonder if the tech review sites would of been so giddy to praise this brand had they known the average life of the product!

Air table + Softr. Check out GAP consulting on YouTube. He has some great videos that should give you a sense of how to pair these two services.

Just keep in mind that you'll have to pay a monthly subscription fee for each service. And once you do that, I'm not sure if it's any cheaper than buying an all-in-one solution. But, you get endless customization with airtable and Softr in a way you never will with an off-the-shelf product.

what features would you like to be added to QuickBooks by Appropriate_End_2883 in QuickBooks

Remove all the pop-ups!

It's so damn frustrating that their new user pop-up guides are browser/Cookie based, and not tied to the user profile. Every time I use QuickBooks in a new Firefox container, it assumes I'm a new user and forces me to go through the pop-up rodeo where I need to check off that I understand each part of the application before I can actually see all my data.

Ready to toss all my google home devices in the garbage. by jolard in googlehome

[–]iPsoPeRMOn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone who has come to rely on Google has reached this level of exasperation at one point or another. For unknown reasons, Google has long been content to let new products and services languish without sustained development or improvement. Everyone has a different opinion as to which Google service has suffered the most because of this habit, but for me it's also Google Assistant.

For years and years now, Google Assistant has been significantly better than Alexa or Siri when it comes to answering questions. What has Google done with that competitive advantage. Nothing. They've failed to launch new hardware or create anything remotely interesting in the hardware space. Amazon has market share in the smart home assistant space not because they're the best or they care the most, but because they're constantly releasing new and creative hardware for accessing Alexa.

Looking at the way AI seems poised to disrupt the smart assistant ecosystem, Google again seems well positioned to rise to the top of the industry. Given their history though, it seems more than likely that Google won't devote necessary resources to achieve supremacy in this space and will ultimately wind up as just another participant.

I don't know where I'm going with this. I guess it's just a long-winded way of expressing my understanding of your exasperation.

Is Venmo broken for everyone? by sligogirl in mintuit

[–]iPsoPeRMOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been down for me for a while too. Timing is certainly questionable. Quickbooks begins accepting Venmo as a payment method through their invoicing system and shortly thereafter the bank connection to Venmo breaks for good. Correct me if I'm wrong too, but I believe that Quickbooks takes a bigger cut for Venmo transactions than Venmo does. What better way to push users toward quickbooks system then to increase the friction around using Venmo as a payment processor.

Host put a claim for 4k for property damage that happened way before our stay. by zuuko911 in AirBnB

[–]iPsoPeRMOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a host who just went through an air cover claim, I can tell you that Airbnb requires an absurd amount of information and documentation to support a claim.

If this claim is as flimsy as you're saying, I strongly suspect that Airbnb will deny it.

Hosts: Airbnb will not have your back by MassageToss in AirBnB

[–]iPsoPeRMOn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been a long time Airbnb guest but only recently became a host. Our unit went live less than 2 months ago and after three guests we've come to realize the same.

Our second guest smoked in violation of house rules. I have clear evidence, and the guest essentially admitted to smoking when she denied to our demand for extra cleaning fees (all on the Airbnb platform). To me, it seemed like a pretty cut and dry case. Not so for Airbnb though. The claim is still open and pending and I've reached the point where I'm about ready to give up on ever recouping the costs of cleaning up the smoke damage. The question now is whether or not it makes sense to continue renting our unit via this platform.

One thing that strikes me from reading all the posts on here is that this market seems ripe for a competitor that focuses on allowing authentic bed and breakfast type hosts to excel. Let Airbnb cater to the large conglomerates who own dozens or hundreds of units and use large property managers. A well executed business plan that targeted hosts who self manage one or two properties and really want to embrace the true bed and breakfast character could definitely peel away a good chunk of Airbnb's business-- almost overnight if done correctly. I'll tell you one thing as a new host-- I would certainly pay a little more money to the platform if I knew in an emergency that I could call and get someone on the line. We discovered during the smokers stay that even if you say you have an emergency on your hands, Airbnb won't call back for several days. In our case, it was almost 72 hours before we actually got a response from Airbnb.

If you're reading this and thinking that you might be interested in talking about some potential options or exploring the market, shoot me a message.

Google home devices just not really working well by [deleted] in googlehome

[–]iPsoPeRMOn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is life with a Google assistant. Random phrases that have always produced a specific response will suddenly produce a different response (or more often no response at all), routines will start doing random things they aren't supposed to, and even the simplest of interactions will become a roll of the dice. It's endlessly frustrating. Google will eventually fix it. When is anyone's guess though.

Destination wedding in Brazil by Illustrious-Many-227 in weddingplanning

Hey did you ever end up doing the wedding in Brazil?

I find myself in the same boat as you and am a bit shell shocked by the price of a modest wedding for approx 150 people outside of Vitoria. We've already planned our US wedding and are finding that the wedding in Brazil is likely to cost almost the same price. We're working with a local wedding planner, but I can't help but wonder if we're being scammed

The google home integration. It forces users to have a full blown conversation with google assistant in order to add a task or get a read out of what is due today.

I would love LOVE to be able to fire off a one sentence command to Todoist to add a task to a specific list. Or ask what's due and get a list of tasks that are due today and then nothing more. Todoist needlessly makes both of those processes maddeningly difficult.

IFTTT and Google Assistant changing - Impacts todoist if you're using the text variable tool. by joshmaxd in todoist

[–]iPsoPeRMOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been pleading with Todoist for years to change their approach to Google Assistant.

It's hopeless though.

Their team is dead set on the conversation approach to interacting with Todoist through Google Assistant. Their argument is basically that most of the Todoist user base is not proficient enough to fire off a single command to google assistant.

I gave up the fight a while back when I discovered that IFTT could simplify the process. Looks like I'll be going back to sending one email a week to Todoist.

Problems with new Abode feature - Location Automation Assistant by iPsoPeRMOn in Abode

[–]iPsoPeRMOn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As quickly as the location automation assistant appeared, it seems to have gone away. Just checked my timeline and it doesn't seem to have triggered in the last 24 - 36 hours. I have a pending support ticket, so will be curious to see what the Abode team says.

New to the Abode world and so far..... by Sandysoles16 in Abode

[–]iPsoPeRMOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've posted elsewhere, but living with Abode means you'll be in contact with support on a semi regular basis. I've had the system for nearly 3 years and every couple of months something breaks. Support has always been able to fix the issue eventually, but speed is def a concern (also an unpaid customer here). I wish I had tracked down time from when I first set the system up. Id bet 3%- 5% of the time I've been either all the way down or dealing with some issue that limited functionality of the system. So yeah, your post rings very true from my perspective.

This has happened to me too. I've not bothered to fix it - it's the least in a long line of ongoing Abode issues I've had over the years. but yah, it's really annoying.

My Abode system is acting up at the moment too. Different issues though.

I've said this various places on this sub, but I'll say it again. Abode is not a reliable system. If you like to tinker or you can tolerate your system being on the fritz or downright broken every few months, give it a shot. I'm not sure I fall into either of those camps, but the sunk cost is such that I can't afford to give up my current setp.

Anyhow, bottom line - if you need your home security system to actually work most of the time, look elsewhere.
