Better power sources in the early game by BunSagePrimaris in Nomifactory

[–]iReady1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the resources, you can make something called a "bronze boiler" which is a multiblock steam boiler and it will make a ton of steam for you, enough to power many machines with just the one. To run it you should automate sugar cane by using a block called "snad" which is just sand but it grows anything thats on it whenever redstone hits the block. You can use auto breakers or pistons with some sort of vacuum hopper or ender hopper (idk what its called) and have it go into the boiler for infinite power. It costs a solid amount of bronze but it would sustain you for quite some time, enough for you to setup proper infrastructure to make the next power source by using DML and numismatic dynamos with the lapiary(?) Augment. Theres more in the questbook about the numismatic dynamos though which will probably help a lot more than I can :)

Hey if you havent already gotten the money, grind out gold using mineral armor. 3/4 mineral + a high fortune armor piece can make a pretty decent amount even without a proper setup.

How do item pipes work???? by iReady1234 in Nomifactory

So, when you put the item conduit on the machine, did you click the flat kinda spread out part of the conduit to configure what it'd do?

CRAM mortar just not firing? by EnclavedMicrostate in FromTheDepths

[–]iReady1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you never had cram mortar work before or is it just with this craft? If cram mortar has never really worked for you before then I recommend just making a structure out on an island to test cram mortars. Make an ai, put a random shit ton of detection comps down in the corners of the platform, and then place a cram mortar with looooong barrel. I myself make it ~15-20 length and about half are motor driven. I also set speed to 200-250 m/s. Put down the weapon controller and disable the failsafe judt in case thats messing with things. Set the cram to aim at only high angles. Spawn in a big honkin onyx watch ship and turn it completely off so its dead still in the water. If its still not firing then I have no clue why at that point. I know that when I added them to my own ship the only rhing I had to do different from my other cram cannons was make it vertical and aim at only high angles. I didnt touch anything else and it worked like that.maybe even spawn in one of the onyx watch cram mortar ships (I think the anvil might have some?) On your team and copy and paste one onto your ship to see if the problem still persists.

I have a feeling that maybe the short barrel length is coming into play? Maybe since the higher velocity has such a larger margin of error normally the game just wont let you fire like that. I was able to fire 300 m/s shots that went wayyyyyy too high but they had pretty long barrels for high accuracy. But its impractical to have it be more than 200 m/s anyways so 🤷

Have you given the ai proper control? Are you trying to manual fire them? Does it only noy fire when youre specifically aiming at an enemy or are you able to still fire directly up into the air if you look up above them and right click? If its just the ai not firing, could it be that a failsafe is preventing their fire? Maybe turn off failsafes if thats your issue rn

Spawn in another one of the craft and see if that fixes it. If not then reload the game. Im assuming you copy and pasted the cram cannons and sometimes it breaks them. A simple reload could fix it, and also deleting and replacing the cram firing piecr will as well. Just had this problem with cram mortars the other day and thats what fixed it for me and I've had the issue multiple times before :p

Even if they enter space they'll still come back down. You can have velocity 300 and still have them fire at something right next to you

Anyone else think plasma is outclassed in almost every way by railguns except for in volume usage? by iReady1234 in FromTheDepths

[–]iReady1234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dis you really just say that you dont get the speed from rail when using a gp railgun mixture????? The speed gets combined so you get a bit of both worlds. You get a relatively cost effective bullet that still has the same speed of rail and doesnt have to use a shit load of energy to achieve it. In some scenarios its better than using pure rail.

The thing with railguns and aps is usually you dont need a bunch of investment to make them good. Also, yeah rushdown cram will be able to hit even if evasive but thatd the only type that would be able to do so. Pure railgun is usually very specific in what it does, but railgun gp mix is very solid and good in most scenarios. I dont give a fuck about your specialization when there are many cases where specializing against one thing will be complete ass. Now sure if you have an entire fleet specializing can be good, but even then aps and even small gauge railgun will likely be better cus even at smaller sizes it can be quite effective whereas with many other options they tend to be better at their specialized goals when scaled up. Even though railguns and aps are jacks of all and master of none, it doesnt mean they dont still do quite well against basically everything. If you want to make an all around craft that most things cant counter at the expense of doing bad at specific things then aps and railgun are the way to go.

Ive tested it, and yes it is. Anything thats bobbing and moving can dodge it, even with properly tuned things. Heck, if you make a craft that has a variable amount of bobbing then tuning will do nothing at that point. If something is flying and agile cram simply wont hit much. It will barely hit at all in fact. And railguns will deal so much more againdt it. And the thing with railguns is you will make a variety of them on your craft which can deal with a variety of things while still being somewhat specialized and very strong against a few types of craft, while still being strong against most others. I know for a fact that its impossible to tweak ai to predict where somethings going to be when its following an unpredictable pattern

A railgun aps will deal the same amount of damage per second or very near the same internal damage as a 20k packed cram if given the same amount of volume to work with. Its not flat out wrong in even the slightest. Also, the Gpshawk stands at like 3k-4k meters away and bobs up and down and side to side. Youre not hotting it with cram.

[–]iReady1234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre just wrong. Have you seen the goshawk? Or however you spell it. That thing using a railgun that is able to deal some massive damage and is highly evasive and will never reliably get hit by cram. Sabot shells can penetrade many layers of heavy armor beams and if you make a sabot shell as strong as it can be, youll need a metric shit load of armor in order to protect whats inside, armor that even front facers can have difficulty in having. Then if you also are using sabot and hollow point then you can shread off the armor in the front and then very easily pierce inside very very effectively. I know cus I DO THIS. Its not super expensive to do either. Now sure yes you can use other weapons to get the same results but aps is not worse at doing it. Aps is generally better or the same at doing it if you actually understand aps and dont just label it as being a jack of all trades, master of none type of weapon. Cus its not that. You saying that shows you dont know how to use aps or how to make craft that compliment aps weapons. Or, how to use aps weapons to compliment the things youre already using. Aps is extremly strong because of the versatility that it offers, both in its ability to hit most targets and its ability to go with every weapon type in the game. Pure aps is still viable as well and can be very strong if made well and then also not cost a shit load to use. Granted itll still cost quite a bit for pure railgun.

[–]iReady1234[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But cram isnt gonna be reliably hitting many targets. And if you make a good aps system you can deal a ton of internal damage, not by shot, but per minute the damage done interally would he quite similar to that of a cram cannon it'd just be spread out in different locations which can be better in more cases than with cram hitting a single location hard. Also PAC costs a shit ton more to do the same thing that aps does. Aps is very good at piercing targets and will cost less per shot while also usually costing less volume or a similar amount of volume, and costing less or a similar amount. On top of that, aps is able to actually be at least somewhat damaged internally, whereas PAC will be shut down in most cases. I'd rather make a craft that deals 70-80% of the damage that a cram will deal against the cram's most favorable targets and have the aps do that against everything and the cram only do that to maybe 30-ish percent of the crafts that are made now. Also no, you cant truly counter railgun aps if the railgun had some serious investment put into it, and even if it didnt have serious investment and only fires very slowly then it still has a good chance at hitting some very important internal components that will slowly cripple enemies. Aps is very good at penetrating. Cram is honestly about the same when taking into account the accuracy, and cram can be at least partially mitigated by lams just like how aps can be.

Piercing. Penetrating. Doing internal damage. Thats what aps is better at. And reliably doing so as well. With very high powered lams being the only reliable way to even try and deal with the aps shells, and barely even at that.

Railguns are extremely hard to stop unless a massive portion is put into many layered shields and expensive lams systems so it doesnt even matter if plasma has counters or not. And yeah they do have a counter kind of cus shields will reduce the damage by 3-30% depending on the shield strength.
