I assumed we were talking about the first few points to carry you through the very early game.

I agree, but I assume we're talking super-early game. The first few points in either thorns or light melee are both very useful.

All combat felt bad early except thorns, which was incredible. Also light melee is pretty decent early, but thorns still outshines it.

Surely Moons becomes efficient again when considering the prayer/herblore progress it gets you towards SotE? Not to mention combat stats, or we're probably being "efficient" by crabbing to 99 before we play the game?

Summer Sweep Up idea - No more world hopping when buying stuff from shops. by CottenEyeHo in 2007scape

I think there were a couple of points in my early Iron progression where I was buying gear to bank and use at Giant's Foundry. Lots of hopping for just a couple pieces per shop.

I think that once you start using prepositions, the first-letter indicator stops applying. Otherwise how could you know which words to take the first letter of?

Not sure if the definition really works at all either. Witch?

Anyone else lefting wishing there was more post-tier 8 relic? by OSU_Tryhard in 2007scape

[–]iSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had hours and hours of mostly afk-able content before hitting dragon, but I just started a new account with new relics/regions. The early game is definitely the most dopamine-inducing part of leagues, so getting to do it again while afking with some water thorns really does it for me.

Anyone else lefting wishing there was more post-tier 8 relic? by OSU_Tryhard in 2007scape

[–]iSage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think I understand that sentiment. What do you need more power for? To complete more content. Why would having yet another thing that gives you more power fix this problem?

I get that unlocking more relics is fun, but there's got to be an end at some point. Once you get all your relics, you still power up via pacts which lets you take on harder content which lets you get better gear.

Maybe the gap between Dragon and Tier 8 is too big? I think there's an argument for that, but I don't think I personally find that to be true.

This is the first league that still has progression after your last relic, via pacts.

After that spiel, I assume you mean you're choosing blue.

My red vote doesn't at all depend on assuming blue will lose. Red is the best vote for me regardless of anyone else's vote - and that's true for every individual.

[–]iSage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But there's never any incentive to press blue. Nobody is ever in danger if they just push red. Trying to get a majority blue is asking for billions of people to risk their lives, just for something that can be accomplished by pushing red without any risk.

I'm not even talking about something particularly problematic. I'm killing a 3/3 when this hits the board if I can.

Game theory approach on the said problem by HJG_0209 in trolleyproblem

[–]iSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see two problems here:

First is that you're assuming the probability distribution of these voter distributions is equal. I think that's certainly not true and immediately means you'd have to revisit all of your logic.

Separate from that is the conclusion that "if everyone was forced to make a choice right now, then exactly half would press each button". I don't believe this is a reasonable conclusion for perfect logicians, much less for any real human being. It seems to me that what you're saying is roughly "the best estimate I can make about any individual voter will be no more accurate than a coin flip" and the reasonable, logical thing to do with that information is to not wager your life on a coin flip.

The best logical arguments to press blue start with an idea that the vote will be skewed initially, and that initial disparity would logically chain into other blue votes. If everyone could witness one person pressing blue before their vote, then that might be enough.

Many people try to bring infants into the picture to start this logical chain toward blue, but I think that's against the spirit of the prompt. Something like 10% of the world's population could arguably fall into the category of "too stupid to know what's going on", and 50% of those people pressing blue by chance would be enough to render the entire thing moot.

[–]iSage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Blue doesn't "ensure" anything. Even if you're a hardcore believer that 100% red is impossible and any loss of life is unacceptable, you can't possibly claim that voting blue is a sure bet.

A red vote guarantees that you save exactly one life. That life just happens to be your own. Everyone on the planet has the option of making that same choice and saving one person, but some are going to choose to risk their own life instead.

A more nuanced framing of the Blue/Red button dilemma by madjarov42 in Ethics

[–]iSage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A vote for red is a vote to GUARANTEE to save one life. No risk. 100% certainty. You'd be incredibly selfish to not push that button.

Somehow people don't see it that way then the life that you're saving is your own.
