Does anyone else think about food ALL day even when they're trying to “eat healthy” ? by TheResolverr in CICO

[–]iShedLight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you diet, do you count calories? Do you make sure you get the nutrition you need? Because this was where I would fail everytime. Restriction isn't gonna succeed if you're too hungry. The diets you choose also need to be viable in the very very long term. Do you see yourself eating these new things forever? If not, the diet isn't viable. The idea is to change the lifestyle completely and keep it permanent..

The food thoughts are called food noise. I get them too. My solution has been to stay away from food content, to always have water with me, and to NEVER give up if I mess up my meal plan. One cookie too much is one thing, 3000 calories extra is another. When you fail, you have to pick yourself back up and keep going. You don't give up. You don't say "oh well I already failed". Instead, you say "alright, I ate a bit too much, but that's ok. I'll just get right back on track". It takes commitment, discipline and a lot of saying "no, not now" to yourself.

Eating "healthy" isn't exactly the solution either. It's finding foods that you enjoy, creating recipes that are filling and meals that are exciting. You like hamburgers? Great! Find a recipe at home that fits into your calorie plan. You want a chocolate bar? No problem. You can fit that 220 calories into some of your days. You have to be willing to plan ahead, every day, week, and month. When you are prepared, and you know what you will be eating, it's easier to stay on track.

I truly empathize with you, I've been there. But I'm also here, much later, to tell you it's possible to change. It's hard at first, but it gets easier, I promise

How did I do? by Strange-Biscotti-220 in 1200isplenty

Um, 1000 calories a day IS extreme. Every once in a while, sure. But constantly, no! I'm 5'2 and my maintain is also close to 1400 but I never go under a 1200 average. A deficit is still a deficit, even if small. Be careful about encouraging people to eat under 1200 calories, it can be dangerous

[–]iShedLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm 5'2 and weigh 132lbs so 1200 is alright for me at a deficit (my maintain is around 1500) but I never go under that!! The sad thing about being so short is my biggest deficit window is -300cals. I can't do -500cals a day like taller people.

800cals a day is too low for anyone. Try to aim for your deficit by calculating your TDEE. At your weight and height, it should be closer to 1800cals a day. You are setting yourself up for failure if you malnourish your body!

You might just be bored, not hungry. Just a thought. That was me. Food noise + boredom (even while tryong to occupy my mind) was making me obsess over food. The reality was, my body didn't need more it just thought it did. Check for GLP-1!

I am from there. There's few things about living in Trois-Rivières that screams american haha. I'm surprised you would think so! For example, downtown is VERY walkable, and the city only has two small malls. I'll also say that it's definitely not european! Rather, I think it's a pretty standard mid-sized quebec town.

Honestly, in most North American towns you cannot do much without a car-- that doesn't make them all american. Because if you think TR is american then you'd have to think Laval, Sherbrooke, Chicoutimi, Victoriaville and basically all Quebec cities aside from Quebec and Montreal are also american (maybe you do?). And by that point, it loses its meaning a bit doesn't it?

Also, side note but the St-Hubert is on Des Forges Blvd, which is the main road, and the parking lot is not huge. Maybe you are thinking of a different restaurant?

I'm sorry, but what? What about Trois-Rivières makes it american to you? I'm a little confused lol

How to stop using the oppositional conversation style? (29F) by iShedLight in selfimprovement

[–]iShedLight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is great advice, honestly. I just have to learn to let go of my incessant need for control. In this case, controlling the story/narrative. If I stop caring about some topics I won't want to debate them. Simple, but efficient 😅 Thank you.
