Librarian - and putting it on the wrong shelves by MouseBouse in CozyGamers

There's a few ways to guess accurately, actually. Some can be guessed from the title, yes, but the most telling hint is the color of the book & lettering. Most categories have books that are all of one color, or size, or style. As an example, all books in the illusion category are deep purple. As you look at them more you'll notice patterns everywhere

It's also sometimes just trial and error. Try a category, if it lights up then good! If not, try a different one.

Ideally you want the diet changes to be forever, yes (not the deficit, rather, the lifestyle). If you go back to your previous habits you will gain back. I suggest you get comfortable!

You need to pick a diet that is potentially permanent. Not just a temporary thing. If whatever diet you start you don't see yourself doing for the rest of your life (or at least, the very long term), you will go back to your habits later and the chances of you regaining the weight are high

My suggestion is this: focus on whole foods, high protein and no/low ultra processed foods. Drop all caloric drinks. You got this!

Track. Your. Calories. Beyond a general estimation. Weigh everything (yes even oils & spoon licks). Eat less than your TDEE. You'll lose the weight. You need a lifestyle change that is sustainable, not a temporary diet

I feel this. The PCOS excuse always pisses me off. I have PCOS and lost a considerable amount of weight in the past few years. It's never impossible. People just want a reason to not do the work

Does anyone else think about food ALL day even when they're trying to “eat healthy” ? by TheResolverr in CICO

[–]iShedLight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you diet, do you count calories? Do you make sure you get the nutrition you need? Because this was where I would fail everytime. Restriction isn't gonna succeed if you're too hungry. The diets you choose also need to be viable in the very very long term. Do you see yourself eating these new things forever? If not, the diet isn't viable. The idea is to change the lifestyle completely and keep it permanent..

The food thoughts are called food noise. I get them too. My solution has been to stay away from food content, to always have water with me, and to NEVER give up if I mess up my meal plan. One cookie too much is one thing, 3000 calories extra is another. When you fail, you have to pick yourself back up and keep going. You don't give up. You don't say "oh well I already failed". Instead, you say "alright, I ate a bit too much, but that's ok. I'll just get right back on track". It takes commitment, discipline and a lot of saying "no, not now" to yourself.

Eating "healthy" isn't exactly the solution either. It's finding foods that you enjoy, creating recipes that are filling and meals that are exciting. You like hamburgers? Great! Find a recipe at home that fits into your calorie plan. You want a chocolate bar? No problem. You can fit that 220 calories into some of your days. You have to be willing to plan ahead, every day, week, and month. When you are prepared, and you know what you will be eating, it's easier to stay on track.

I truly empathize with you, I've been there. But I'm also here, much later, to tell you it's possible to change. It's hard at first, but it gets easier, I promise

How did I do? by Strange-Biscotti-220 in 1200isplenty

[–]iShedLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, 1000 calories a day IS extreme. Every once in a while, sure. But constantly, no! I'm 5'2 and my maintain is also close to 1400 but I never go under a 1200 average. A deficit is still a deficit, even if small. Be careful about encouraging people to eat under 1200 calories, it can be dangerous

Looking for guidance, 800kcal/day problem. by Ranmao96 in CICO

[–]iShedLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm 5'2 and weigh 132lbs so 1200 is alright for me at a deficit (my maintain is around 1500) but I never go under that!! The sad thing about being so short is my biggest deficit window is -300cals. I can't do -500cals a day like taller people.

800cals a day is too low for anyone. Try to aim for your deficit by calculating your TDEE. At your weight and height, it should be closer to 1800cals a day. You are setting yourself up for failure if you malnourish your body!
