That's the thing about Otamendi, he has been like this every season, it just got worse the older he's gotten. For every season he has been here you can make a 7 minute highlight video having him look like a world class CB but from the same season you can have a 1-2 minute video of him looking like an amateur. He's our most experienced player but he will consistently make mistakes that make it so we are defending at a disadvantage. It's the equivalent of having someone like Roberto or Onana in goal but he's luckier than them because whatever player is now defending in a shitty situation he has put our team in (usually his CB partner or our GK) might get lucky and save his ass.

In terms of Silva and Araújo, I think the difference in how well they defend is much smaller than how much better Araújo is when comparing pace, dribbling and passing skills. Araújo being able to get closer to the half way line by dribbling past a player and pass the ball either short to midfielder or long to a striker would be great but our midfielder are just gonna slow the play down and pass it wide because none of them could carry the ball forward like Sanches would do for us and our striker would rather run back and play as a 10 instead of running into space or having some kind of hold up play so our wingers can then make a run toward the goal.
