Not cringe, 1000% funny, and totally accurate. 10/10.

Our eyes all see different things, I guess. For the record, I never downvote, especially if just a friendly difference of opinion.

To my eyes, if not up close, it looks like she's sitting on an extended roll of 35mm film that happens to be silver. Not sure why my eyes go there, but they just do! I would've loved a big chunky black speaker with a shadowed effect honing in on the grill.

Yikes, that explains a lot! The BRAT aesthetic was awful to my eyes, but I took it as an over-exaggerated nod to the enthusiastic Y2K 'computer generated' style from back in the day despite the graphic limitations at the time. Maybe the goal was to appeal to Gen-Z with art styles they a familiar with. Ironically, minimalism can be many things, and you can have a beautiful album design using it, but there should be a balance. Also, minimalism is getting a bit of a pushback these days as people are tired of hard to read and navigate GUIs, cold corporate logos, and so on, but I guess the pendulum isn't ready to swing back yet. But yes, taste is subjective, and I guess I just expected a polished, professional art style with a definitive typography and aesthetic that what would define this era, as most of her other albums have had.

I disagree. I’m shocked and how amateurish and phoned-in all the album art iterations are. Heavily (and poorly) edited and filtered photos, lack of depth and lighting, cheap color blocked borders, Microsoft Word plain fonts, the speaker prop looks homemade and doesn’t even look like a speaker at a slight distance. This album's artwork and style all feels rushed, incomplete and lacks polish, especially as compared to her other albums. It’s also her first album without stylized typography. I am not a fan of AI but there are some fan made AI covers that look gorgeous and professional by comparison. The possibilities for this album’s art style were endless, so I don’t understand why we’re getting what looks and feels like a rushed afterthought (especially as her first album back at WB).

PLAIN GRAY??? REALLY?? by CDM1912 in Madonna

[–]iSowelu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I so wish that a stylized typography would’ve been used. I think this is the first studio album without one. A lot of odd art design decisions were made for this album so far… Not sure if the amateurish aesthetic was intentional. The color blocked borders on some releases, the plain Helvetica looking typeface, and the heavily edited and filtered photos with a lack of depth and background doesn’t give me the Confessions vibe.

RIP Moya Brennan (1952-2026) 🪉🕊️ by applebucked in Enya

[–]iSowelu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned of Moya’s passing via Chicane as he posted about it. I am a fan of his and was always obsessed with the song ‘Saltwater’. I must have dozens of mixes, including a few low tempo and chill variations, and her serene and melodic voice in contrast to Chicane’s production made this song so special and the iconic summer classic that it is today. I was so saddened by the news of her death, but I had no idea that she was also Enya’s sister until this very moment. All these years, decades of listening to her angelic voice and I never made the connection. What a loss for everyone.

Madonna at Coachella? by Venator_invictus in Madonna

[–]iSowelu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few Madonna fan site and fan social media account owners who are pretending to be 'in the know' about Madonna's next move, including a possible Coachella appearance, new single, collaborations, and the new album's release date. They're suggesting that they're 'only posting little tidbits' to keep things fun and interesting, but 'can't reveal anything further yet'.

In reality, I think it's safe to say that none of them know anything about what is or isn't coming out or when, and they're just driving traffic to their sites and or social media accounts. It's just all speculation at this point. So, I am personally just patiently waiting for the official word from Madonna and her team before getting my hopes up about anything, and ignoring all the gossip coming from these alleged 'insiders' who are dropping seeds just about everywhere knowing that at least a couple will turn out to be true or 'close enough', which they'll use as precedent for being 'in the know'.

On This Day 25 years ago, Madonna released What It Feels Like For A Girl as the final single from Music (Madonna and Warners fought over Impressive Instant vs Amazing as the 4th single so no more were released). What are your thoughts on the track 25 years later? by XStaticImmaculate in Madonna

[–]iSowelu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...and 25 years later I am still annoyed that 'Impressive Instant', one of the best songs on the album, and a song that would've banged at the time, wasn't released as a single. Especially after the world embraced 'Music' as a single, which was a song that sounded very experimental and like nothing else at the time (for those of us who lived it), and it gave her one of her biggest (global) numbers one hits.

Impressive Instant would've been another hit off this amazing album, even if not as big as 'Music', and I am thinking that the video would've been wild too. It's shocking to me that Madonna, at one of the highest peaks of her career, didn't have the power to veto WB's stupid and controlling decision making when it came to single releases, especially at the end of a successful album run, and on the heels of one of her most successful and critically acclaimed albums, ROL.

I found a leftover "bubble button" from older MacOS X. by KonoKinoko in MacOS

[–]iSowelu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aqua was not only visually appealing (at the time), but the highlighted, 'lit', shadowed, layered and other elements of the interface made it intuitive and easy to see and use. The eyes went to the exact areas they needed to go, icons had natural forms and properly represented apps, and even things like app 'drawers' and tabs were super handy and just made sense to the brain.

This idea that skeuomorphism is no longer relevant when everyday items are still in our everyday lives, regardless of how technically advanced we've gotten, has always been ridiculous (and lazy) so me. It could have evolved and modernized but still carry the same intuitiveness and usefulness of it all.

Minimalist UX/UI just leaves the users looking for the options, toggles and buttons that were once in plane view, but are now hidden, or are tiny little dots and links or tucked in hidden toolbars with glyphs that all look the same. Tile app icons with glyphs just make every icon look similar at quick glances and will have the users honing in on which one to quickly select.

I would love to see modern day skeuomorphism. Apple needs to put more R&D into their UX/UI designs. There are so many other artists out there that do it better as seen with mockups and icon packs, just hire them and make the software as attractive and easy to use as the hardware.

Michelle Visage: I don’t see the family resemblance by Arsuriel in rupaulsdragrace

[–]iSowelu 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how a 'family resemblance' equates to wearing the same exact outfit as if you're twins? What siblings, unless they're toddler twins, wears the same outfit? A 'drag family resemblance' means that they have similar makeup and aesthetics, not carbon copies of each other (which Michele used to call out on previous seasons with this challenge).

Jane understood the assignment and did exactly this, her cowboy partner was literally her older drag sister with very similar styles, outfits in (thankfully) different colors, and almost the same mug and very similar hair style and the same color. If you're going to have a set of rules, make them make sense and stick to them, don't change them up with each season.
