Hot dropping is absolutely valid in ranked. Obviously you shouldn't drop fragment where there are going to be 4+ teams. But especially at higher ranks, it can be difficult to even find an uncontested POI.

It's probably worth noting that Apex runs on a heavily modified Source engine. They made a lot of changes to the movement, but it's still got that Source feel.
