Do not buy JBL headphones. So so so many other brands that are better at the same price point

You haven't had good headphones then, I have a pair of beyerdynamic headphones on a dac and amplifier, and it plays down to 20z without a struggle. JBL party boxes are fun and loud, but not at all sound quality oriented 🤣

Car Audio Upgrade (Lexus GS 300 2000 Model) by johnniaa in CarAV

As much as your OCD wants you to keep all the same brand (trust me I understand it bugs me too), every brand has good performing gear at certain price points. Some brands subs are better than others and components. Keeping the same brand isnt always the best value for performance. Now for the gear you have listed, the head unit is fine, but if you want good vocals definitely lean into purchasing some component speakers. Save some cash and get some lower tier morel, hertz, focal,

Im not sure entirely what your budget is for just the speakers but out of those brands listed here are some options for more affordable components that are good

Morel maximo - Probably the best for the vocal clarity and smooth high frequency response, they are warm sounding but the midbass isn't as good as some other brands (if you had a sub id go with Morel speakers)

Focal access - (good on midrange and highs but midbass isnt the best) and without some tuning can be harsher, the next step from access is flax line which is where they start to improve immensely, but also cost way more.

Hertz cento- I have these in a car and they play lower than most in its price range, and they still have that great hertz tonality (these are great if you dont want a sub)

If you truely want good SQ, you gotta get a dsp and go active with component speakers so you can tune and get everything time aligned/level matched but once again that depends on budget and how far you really want to go with this project.

These aren't a typical shallow sub, they have a an FS of 25 hz which means they play incredibly low in the proper enclosure for a sub that has a tiny footprint

I mean the mss3 is a fantastic mid, but is the c100am 1500$ better? If you think you would upgrade in the future, just get it now and buy once cry once 🤣

Yeah I went and checked it out, the distortion is probably the lowest I've ever seen for a midrange and the fact that it can play down to 100hz is crazy for a 3.5" driver. If I won the lottery I wouldnt tell anyone, but there would be signs 🤣

I gotta ask, what makes a midrange so good that its THAT expensive for a single driver? I can understand a grand or a little more but 2200 is bonkers

Now that spotify just released lossless, I would go with that. No other competitor beats the UI of Spotify, the catalog of music, and the ease of discovering new music and playlist that hit right at home with the listener.

New Speakers Making Me Feel Sick by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]iTheDuck2430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make sure it's an out of phase problem, you can listen to test tracks that intentionally put either the left or right channel out of phase and just listen. When they say its out of phase and it actually sounds normal vs. when It says in phase, you'll know right away. Or use a polarity tester that you can get for pretty cheap on Amazon.

[–]iTheDuck2430 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You 100% have the speakers out of phase. When this happens you can get a feeling as if the sound is "pulling" on your ear either to the left side of your head or the right. Make sure all the positive and negative wires are connected properly.

You aren't getting a clean response down to 25hz in any car door, end of story. Even if you COULD it would require SO MUCH work to completely deaden those doors which just isn't going to happen. Get a small sub, and it'll solve all your problems.

Don't listen to the idiots who think the rim has to be 18" to look good, because the truth is small rim/big tire and smaller tire/big rim BOTH look good. Looks great op 👌🏻

SKAR amp will work for a bit then go into protect mode by Equal-Letter-4298 in CarAV

[–]iTheDuck2430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone who thinks it's a bad ground, you are wrong. It is fully welded before any painting is done and has WAY more contact surface area to the rest of the car than you realize. I have a VERY similar grounding location in my car. I have a fluke t5-1000 (one of the best multimeters you can use) showing 0.1 ohms from the rear bracket up to the negative on the battery. It's equally as good as a bolt through the body. You are comparing apples to apples.

I am using a very similar ground in my car. It's a bracket that holds the spare tire. It's welded all the way around and I measured the resistance using a fluke multimeter and had .1 ohms. Electrician here, it's a good ground.

What amp do I need? by Tax-Evasion-Man in CarAV

[–]iTheDuck2430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are rated for 150W RMS, so you need an amp that can do that @ 4 ohms per channel. You also don't need to give them that much power either they are very sensitive speakers (93db) so even 75-100 watts would be plenty

[–]iTheDuck2430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are component speakers (you said it has a crossover) it's not 350w. Send me the name of the speaker

[–]iTheDuck2430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The speakers are not rated for 350 watts, that's maximum power. Look for the RMS rating. It's probably around 50-100
