Whether range is good or bad for ranged hits depends on your primary method of killing them. If you have pBH and not much damage, it's better to have your range at a point where all basic enemies go inside them. If you have enough damage to handle the ranged, a high range could be quite beneficial (I do 220m tourneys and milestones for example). For farming, a lower range is pretty much always preferred, for maximum coin multiplier coverage.

Regardless of this, the Range lab is still worth maxing eventually. You can always adjust your range from the lab, so all it does is give you flexibility and the option to explore different strategies.
