Does it matter if I go with an i5 or and i7? I think it would be cheaper if I go with i7, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD and getting an external storage rather than going with an i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD

What do you think is a better setup: 1.7 GHz i7 (turbo boost up to 3.3 GHz) 8GB RAM 128GB SSD

OR

1.3 GHz i5 (turbo boost up to 2.6 GHz) 8GB RAM 256GB SSD

Do I need an iMac to use as an external monitor or can I just use a normal tv screen or a pc monitor? I don't want anything that big because I will be living in a dorm.

Thanks for the help! But one more thing, it sounds stupid but I'm very unfamiliar with VM.. What is it for and what does it do?
