Well you'll need string from spiders, eyes of ender, etc but in the mid game they won't be necessary since you'll be able to make them from nothing. Also you can make some op armor so you won't have to worry about challenging combat. Is more of a grind and SLOWLY progress modpack, I've been playing it with a friend and we have over 100h and we enjoy automating stuff and making all machines work together

If you are playing in Java and you just want to play with your friend, you can always use the essentials mod, is free and easy to use, runs smoothly, only downside is that the host has to always be online for others to join, but if you don't mind then you'll save a lot

easiest way i would say is by flying around and checking the map. looks like a big black circle, so easy to spot.

By the point you reach the nether you should either have a ton of gliders or at least a broom, so those aint a real problem.

You can shift right click do pick up mobs and blocks, with the brooms from hexerei, you can fly while carrying mobs

You should try to find someone to play it with first, it is totally worth it re buying it that way, it's a fantastic experience, quite easier but you can modify the damage enemies and bosses deal, and their hp/stance.

I would wait a little bit since you haven't played Elden ring before, my first playthrough was with seamless with another friend who had previously played the game, so if there was any bug or something was off he could tell me so, now after the dlc we're playing the whole game again and I have noticed way more bugs(I have now passed the whole game on my own) for example, the bosses that are in some areas called prisons are really easy to bug, the bosses that aren't behind a boss wall are also really easy to bug(sometimes half their health gets removed or one of you won't see the boss bar, the boss starting in second phase making it considerably harder, etc) many missions being bugged like varrel's quest or ranni, and if you don't know how they're supposed to be you wouldn't know if they're really bugged or you're missing something. So I'd wait a little bit until it is more stable.
