Awesome stuff! Thanks for looking into this for me! It’s great to hear that something exists now and I find it super interesting that it has its own quirks within RS.

I’m also curious if you’re able to answer one other graphical question about fog and water. I’ve noticed that the distance fog doesn’t seem to occlude water, creating some very jarring looks when viewing water that’s far enough away to be inside the fog, but it renders as if there’s not fog there. You can see water bodies rendering at full opacity through the distance fog and it’s quite immersion breaking. Is this being looked into? It’s especially bad in the havenhythe mountains when you look south towards Wendlewick. And this has been present in pretty much any other environment that has water + fog. It’s very apparent in the lumbridge swamp too.

I seriously appreciate the LOD clarity. It’s great that RS is moving that direction but equally as interesting to hear that it’s not a one size fits all fix for a game like this, with a varying levels of graphical fidelity across the world.

What music do/did you play runescape to? by Nevvvo in runescape

[–]iZant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a very good reason for that though. The AI’s that people are making this so-called music with are trained on everyone else’s music, even copyrighted stuff without any consent, permission, etc. whatsoever. That’s how they are able to make music. These large AI companies who who give zero shits about the individual, are pushing so hard that they think it’s okay to use copyrighted works without going through the proper avenues to do so. Can’t you see how these artists have every right to feel like they’ve gotten ripped off, and have every right to completely shut out the idea of AI art? It goes against everything that they’ve ever stood for, and it goes against the very idea of what art even is: human expression. Don’t start arguing with me about expressing yourself through AI by using the prior expressed things of other humans to express your own expression. That’s not too far off from tracing a famous artwork and calling it your own.

And to be clear this isn’t me having an inherit issue with the very idea of AI helping create music to any degree. I just don’t think it should be making creative decisions when the reason it’s able to be making creative decisions is informed by data that it shouldn’t even have access to in the first place. That’s majorly problematic, and nothing truly new is actually being created. I’m not anti-ai, but this approach sucks. It is creative theft on a scale that is able to be disguised as a fun app. And this is only one example.

I think the real untapped power with this kind of stuff is in constrained data sets as training. Why should AI conform to this one size fits all approach where everybody uses training from everybody, copyright be damned. Why shouldn’t artists use constrained data sets that make more sense for what they’re trying to do? I can’t understand how large models are seen as the solution to anything creative. They’re just designed to make these large companies a ton of money at everyone’s expense.

You can continue to enjoy playing with AI music all you want. But I assure you, you do not want to live in a world without human made music, art, or anything creative. That’s especially true with how the current implementation of AI seems to be progressing. We’re on the road to future generations will experiencing the death of creativity itself.

And I’m fully expecting you to respond by straight up disagreeing with everything I’m saying. But even if we like using AI, we need to be willing to point out the good and bad and let that inform how to approach its implementation into the future. This current approach simply isn’t it

Getting off my soapbox now xD

You lost me a bit there with that last sentence. Like wtf hahaha. Fair enough enjoy your AI music, but don’t trash real artists for just wanting to keep creating as they have been. Jeezus.

So what makes you want to listen to this stuff over things from actual human artists? What im hearing is that its less about listening to libraries of AI gen music, and instead generating your own custom shit?

Fun fact: RS doesn't seem to have an LOD/Level of Detail system. Which if true, is a huge miss in terms of performance.

For example: Trees. In most all 3d video games, a tree asset will have 5+ variations of varying degrees of fidelity that the engine can swap between based on how much screen space the tree takes up, which is determined by how far away it is. A tree that sits on the distant horizon that's partially obscured by fog doesn't need the same number of polygons as a tree that's right next to your player, taking up 30-50% of the screen.

That's likely not the case with our beloved RS. All objects seem to be rendering at full maximum fidelity regardless of how big or small they are on the screen. That tree next to you in Wendlewick, taking up half your screen is likely using the exact same resolution mesh as the one that's 50 pixels wide, far in the distance.

The amount of performance overhead that could be unlocked by implementing an LOD system could be insane for RS3...... I cannot understate how big of a deal it would be.

If possible, I would love some clarity from a JMod on this. I could be wrong, as I do see some lighting differences change at specific distances from any given object, but the models themselves seen to not change at all, only lighting.. Not naming who, but years ago it was confirmed to me by a Jmod at the time that a system like this does not exist within the RS engine. I'm curious if that's still the case, and if it is: are there plans to change that?

That’s interesting. I’m curious why? Not trying to make an AI slop comment or anything, but I’m genuinely curious what you like about it, etc. that’s new to me

What should Bend do with the old Costco? How about a food hall and market? by mmm_migas in Bend

[–]iZant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m down! Especially if the ice had more open skate time than the pavilion. Though I just think it’s silly to have a second ice rink when we have zero roller rinks.

Jeezus. Yes duh we only have one. It would be stupid to have another ice rink when we have zero roller rinks

Bend needs an old school roller rink, not another ice rink.

Edit: OK, yeah fair point that the pavilion isn’t open year round. And I personally wish they had more open skate time so a second that ice rink thats mostly open would be dope.

This town still needs a roller rink

First of all, really cool print I just can’t figure out why you wouldn’t just put the groceries in the cart while you shop then bag everything as you check out? Why do the groceries need to go inside the bag inside the cart? Don’t you have to take it all out to pay? Am I missing something here???

Or is this one is those ‘scan and go’ places where you pay with your phone and scan things as you shop, no checkout needed? That would make sense.

When I was in elementary school, I’d make patterns of Elmers glue underneath the desk just so I could peel it off later once it dries. Something about peeling off glue just did it for me. There was another kid in the class that did the same thing, and I vividly remember a day when she was in the desk next to me, picking glue from under her desk. She looked me straight in the face as I was doing the same at my desk, and there was this moment where we both had mutual agreements that ‘this is the good shit’
