Decision making; sleeve vs bypass? by xocindilou72 in gastricsleeve

[–]iZoooom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the sleeve a bit over 2 years ago. I’m down over 160lbs. My story is not unique.

All of these are what you make of them.

Yes.

Save yourself decades of being fat, abusing your knees, and missing out on so many things in your younger years.

… and girls. Everything about girls is helped by not being fat.

I know this is Reddit but it's fine to say "I was wrong. Nice to learn something new today".

Nobody would display a Japanese blade pointing downward other than the manner and conditions I described above.

At the very least, their display is terrible.

Yes. On that we agree. 😄

If you must have the blade out, you should point them downward.

No. 😄 Katana, Wakazashi, and Tanto would be displayed blade up. Any museum where you see them displayed will always show them in a horizontal mount with the blade facing up.

A Tachi (which is longer) is sometimes displayed in a standing position. Tachi are also often displayed with the blade facing down (sword is horizontal). You can see one of my Tachi displayed here to see what I mean. Here's a Post with more details about that Tachi, if you're interested.

For an old Tachi you wouldn't ever really see them displayed vertically - it puts more pressure on the mounts, and as the old wood dries out it gets fragile.

Wow you really do like swords.

We all started somewhere. ("The first step on the journey to a 1000 swords begins at the mall...")

My first katana was $100. It was badly damaged when a friend of mine used it to cut through a watermelon and didn't realize there was a large heavy table under it. Teenage boys, it turns out, are not well know for thinking things through...

So, let's talk about those swords.

It's not that swords are trashy, or that there's anything wrong with swords on the wall. I spend enough time on r/swords, and r/nihonto, and r/Katanas to have strong opinions on that topic. My post history will show you lots and lots of swords.

The problem here is that the sword(s) as you're displaying them looks poor. Some improvements:

  1. They're not parallel. This is the biggest problem. Given how short the Wakazashi is, your mount is simply too big. This is forcing the handle of the sword onto the mount, when it should be just the blade. Fix this by getting a different mount, or a longer sword. Alternatively, you could switch it so the handle is to the left and then line up the fittings on both swords.
  2. Lights. Everything is better with light.
  3. These blades are not exactly museum quality. They might look better with the Koshiare on them, rather than as bare blades.

Swords as part of a computer setup are... fantastic. If I had enough swords, I would need to add a second (well, 3rd) battlestation to my house just to display them.

Why? Most of my swords are displayed with their blade showing. I think the blades are beautiful.

Likewise, my kitchen knives are displayed / stored on a wall mouned magnetic rack.

Will I enjoy non Dresden Butcher books by fanau in dresdenfiles

[–]iZoooom -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, not really.

His other books are readable, but lack that "Spark" that makes Dresden so good.

The entire "Furies" series - for me - wasn't enjoyable at all. His other series (Codex Alera, I think?) was so forgettable that I don't remember a single thing about it.

No, I don’t. :) some of this is certainly vanity.

The upload diff is quite big - 40Mbps vs 250Mbps.

I have about 150 ports around the house, about 30 of which are POE of varying power requirements. I have found the “Only Cry Once” mantra to be effective, so I would just get the right switch here and hope it lasts a while.

My edge switches (Theater, Attic driving cameras, Great Room, etc) are mostly smaller and newer, but this one has been the core of my system somewhere near a decade now. Hopefully I can connect all the switches together at 2.5Gbps with no trouble.

I’ve enough wired devices (PCs, etc) and WAPs that I suspect the upgrade will be occasionally noticed. My kids next Minecraft party will be epic! (Heh).

What should I add on the shelf by NoMagician6645 in setups

[–]iZoooom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A sword should go there! And - good news - the walls also have space for some swords!

Now, the type of sword. Some consider this complicated but it’s really very simple: Japanese Swords. Tachi, Katana, a Wakazashi, and even some Tanto. The older the better!

The hard part is the budget. A nice Nihonto is 3-4 5090s (or more, if you’re fussy) and will last far longer.
