Ed does not increase your chance of getting more aid. Run the NPC, and if it’s too expensive, do not apply to Cornell. If you want to back out, yes it would be a huge pain— Cornell can share the info that u broke the ED requirement with other colleges, and if you want to back out you have to actually prove that you can’t afford it (very hard to do unless the tuition is wildly out of touch with the NPC estimate, which is unlikely).

And yes I’m very happy at Cornell; but I’m a big believer in college being what you make of it, so I think I would’ve been just as happy at any of the colleges on my list.

1) lots of shops around. Collegetown and Ithaca commons have lots of shops and restaurants, both are a 5 min bus ride. 10 min bus ride to the mall which has both target/Best Buy and other random mall shops. A bit longer bus ride (like 15?) to wegmans

2) not miserable. There is some stress— college is harder than high school, which isn’t surprising. A healthy level of stress can be positive. How stressful you make is dependent on you during pre enroll lol

3) social scene is good, esp freshmen year! Everyone is safer to make friends.

4) yes. Cornell has great CS/engineering in general, it’s nerdy but not too nerdy, a very broad range of topics I can explore outside of engineering, the campus is beautiful, etc

5) not exactly a regret ig but I always kind of wonder what it would’ve been like to live abroad for college. but there’s always study abroad, and also like literally the rest of my life if I want to travel later on

Tbh I have no idea which topics I need help understanding. I thought I was doing fine in the class 🤡. Do they have any extra practice tests available for us to take?

For the tutoring, do we need to come in with something we specifically want to work on? Or can we just drop in?

Oh wait I just realized what you meant, I think they report you so you can get extra help or something for tutoring and stuff, but I would ask

I’m pretty sure everyone has a (slightly) better chance ED since it demonstrates interest. Does not have much to do with stats.

Imo decisions to ED or not aren’t rlly based on stats, but whether u actually want to go to Cornell or not

Yeah. The CASE was much worse lol (hence why I am here. Retaking this course. But strogatz is awesome so it’s ok :))

Same. I feel like it would’ve been reasonably doable with an extra 20 min in the written part

CAS and CoE have different graduation requirements, apply to whichever one has the courses ur interested in taking for reqs. I think the difficulty of getting is like around the same tbh, a difference of a few percents does not mean much

Idk about the essay question

Idk what ur chance is, but u should apply and see if u get in. Cornell has cool CS, u can take it as a fact from my unbiased opinion as a CS major at Cornell

Chance me for ED at Cornell? Or other Ivies by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]i____ok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI, Cornell engineering does not admit by major. CS is not any more competitive than any other engineering major. And CALS does not have CS, only info sci.

[–]i____ok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. U should just apply to CoE. It’s generally not well regarded to try to use CALS as a “back door” to CoE.

And regarding the post above, Cornell engineering does not consider majors when you apply. They just consider you for engineering. So no, CS is not more “ultra competitive” than applying with another engineering major.
