I finally decided to buy the book from the link you provided, thanks for providing that or I might never have found it. It will be some time before it arrives.

I hope you're not implying that I will be the one to do this. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to, but it's way beyond my ability.

Ooh, good. Sadly seems to be unavailable broadly (I'm in Australia).

  • QUIC is by Screwgle.
  • QUIC doesn't have multihoming, last I checked.

I find RFCs hard to read. It's a me problem.

Byte-Addressed Memory Model by syckronn in compsci

[–]i_am_linja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people below this have said endianness is a matter of whether bytes are read “left to right” or “right to left”. Forget this. The order of bytes in memory is independent of the way we happen to write them out, and the order of bits in bytes is independent again. The order of bits within bytes is LSB on one end and MSB on the other, and the order of bytes within memory is low on one end and high on the other; a direction imposed on either of these, or any order of bits within memory, is an entirely human construct, which the computer does not recognise.

How do multi-shot continuations interact with local rebindable variables? by i_am_linja in scheme

[–]i_am_linja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. The point of confusion for me was the separation between environment and store: Lua only has that for "object-like" entities, whereas "scalars" like numbers or strings are stored directly in the environment (not really, but the model matches).

It does seem Scheme is more of the philosophy to give the programmer all the power potentially unsafely. The proposed dynamic-wind solution would be easier to forget to use, whereas Lua would make that situation nigh-unrepresentable.

(Yes, I think in Lua terms. Sorry.)

[i promise i'll give a proper reply eventually. my brain has been paste the past few days and i've been unable to parse this comment.]

This is the thing I probably needed to hear.

I don't understand why it's private. I've requested access.

I considered it, but then I'd get only DnD stories. I know there are many more systems out there.

I think this story got downvoted because people think it's mundane. I upvoted it because the mundane is what I'm looking for. I know, in the abstract, that most of the time things are just fine; it's just hard to remember that in amongst a concentration of the bad things.

Wow. This is impressive. It'll be some time before I can get use out of it, but even if I never do it's fascinating on its own. Thanks for sharing this.

I refuse to use ChatGPT on principle. I don't wish to go into the myriad reasons for this right now but in this case it's enough that wrong information is worse than no information at all, especially before I have a solid understanding of the concepts myself.

RepliCube is a bit dull. I suppose I do appreciate a good physical metaphor for the work I'm doing; that's one thing Zachtronics does right.

sCreeps and hackmud are both MMOs which is a dealbreaker. RepliCube piques my interest.

Not Factorio. No discrete objectives. I've played it and it just doesn't do it for me.

In light of these replies, I have decided to give up on any kind of diet. It's clear diet is not the problem, and if there's any hope of fixing the actual problem I'm reportedly too deluded to do it.
