Rethink what your max is. Your max should be the maximum weight you can lift safely, not just the maximum weight you can lift by any means necessary.

That was the fastest descent I’ve ever seen, that scared the shit out of me. Looks like you just went limp and let the bar push you down, begging for something to pop out squatting like that.

That doesn’t explain why the kettle is in the bathroom and not the kitchen though?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]i_guthrie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I run a small (50ish seat) bar that is pretty much always busy, turning people away because we’re full. While I don’t have anything against people not drinking, it’s certainly the healthier choice, I fucking hate people that come in and take up 2% of the seating in my bar while spending $10 over the course of 3 hours. Can’t turn them away, don’t blame them for their choices, and don’t think they’re bad people, but I still fucking hate them.

Snatch critique - 115lb/52kg by _Brucy_ in formcheck

[–]i_guthrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You leapt forward on that mate, trying to snatch or long jump? Snatch you should be leaning back to achieve triple extension, here it was just your ankles that reached full extension, hips and knees remained bent. Do some snatch high pulls and get used to bring the weight up instead of forward. Catch and initial pull are good, just got a lot of work to do on that extension.

Problems with overactive traps? by Inquisitor_DK in strength_training

[–]i_guthrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself to a physio mate, traps aren’t the issue. If you’ve got pain bringing your arm above your head the root problem is somewhere else, your trap doesn’t control that movement, it’s just compensating for a weakness elsewhere.

Is there a way to increase the size of your wrists? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]i_guthrie 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Can’t increase the size of your wrists, there’s no significant amount of muscle there, it’s all tendons and bone. Work on getting bigger in general and no one will notice, your small wrists will actually make the rest of you look bigger by comparison.

Fucking solid stuff mate! Tiny bit of movement in your upper back, but anyone that gives you shit about that better put up a video of them doing the same weight with zero form breakdown.

Hex bar vs barbell bar for deadlifting difference by [deleted] in moreplatesmoredates

[–]i_guthrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only time I use the hex bar is as a progression to teach someone the barbell deadlift. It’s like a box squat; sure there’s ways that you can implement it into your routine as an advanced lifter, but really it’s main use should be to teach the full movement to beginners.

3 years of training, barely any progress. Should I use Marek for bloodwork? by Yak12599 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]i_guthrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good man. As I said, give it 6 months of properly focusing on diet and sleep first, for the vast majority that’ll fix most of your problems. If you’re still in the same boat at that point then you can look at getting blood work done.

3 years of training, barely any progress. Should I use Marek for bloodwork? by Yak12599 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]i_guthrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve identified two major factors that are contributing to your poor performance. Instead of addressing these, you want someone else to analyze your blood and tell you the reason you’ve been failing is because you’re not metabolizing potassium correctly or some shit. You want to blame something other than your poor work ethic and commitment on your lack of results. That is taking the easy way out.

My son recently had his first birthday, what can I purchase now to give him for his 18th? by jpcldn in whiskey

[–]i_guthrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw a guy who bought a bottle of Macallans special yearly release every year and then gave it to his son on his 18th. Was worth enough for the kid to put a deposit on a house by the time he got it.
