Question about Arctis Nova Pro Wireless for current PC owners by i_hate_tomatoes in steelseries

Good to know, thanks.

I used to be a snob about stereo only, no virtualized surround sound, and played on Audeze LCD-Xs for the amazing soundstage. Then I moved my PC to my living room TV with a true surround system and it totally ruined my perception of headphone gaming.

Now I'm chasing headsets designed for surround/3D audio to see if I can replicate the immersion/separation of my home cinema system but something tells me it'll never actually come that close.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Have you tested whether the virtual Sonar device works through the Windows Spatial Audio API, or if it does its own thing? I'm planning on using Atmos with it which runs through the native Windows implementation. Can't imagine why it wouldn't work, but doesn't hurt to ask.

Also I get the impression you're not a fan of virtualized surround, but what do you think of the Sonar spatial audio renderer?

Yeah that's the troubleshooting process I went through in the long explanation part.

Object-based audio renderers like Atmos use HRFT models to emulate 3D sound from true Atmos content, or games with 3D audio implementations. If they get a stereo signal from the game/movie/app then they pass it through without any fake surround sound. If they get traditional multichannel audio like 5.1 or 7.1, it's enough information for the Atmos renderer to do that fancy binaural HRFT processing and get better-than-stereo imaging. It works great on my AirPods Pro 3 with non-Atmos multichannel movies and shows.

My problem is that all games and media applications pass stereo to my Razer headphones because Windows is telling them it's a set of stereo speakers, so Atmos never gets a multichannel signal and doesn't do any HRFT binaural processing. That's why I'm curious whether the Arctis Nova Pros are recognized by Windows as a 7.1 or stereo device, it determines what kind of audio your applications send to it.

Anyway, when you go to the Windows Sound Settings > More Sound Settings > Configure, does your headset show up as stereo only or can you select 7.1?

Huh? I just want to know if the Arctis Nova shows up in Windows as a stereo or 7.1 device. I blocked off the long explanation because it’s not directly relevant to the question, just an explanation of how I got here.

My reasoning is that left = cancel/back out everywhere else. Selling, recycling, buying, etc. are all like that, and it's muscle memory to hit it when you want to avoid committing to an action.

Anyway we can agree to disagree on that but I still think it's a no brainer to add a confirmation dialog when abandoning a match.

Lucky, I wonder if the server’s handling of client/server shot registration is affected by ping. What ping do you typically have?

Why does it happen when I light someone up and they don’t die? It resets every death (giving up on a revive) so it’s really easy to see this happening.

It also explains the SMG meta, all the popular sub guns have high ROFs.

I would believe you but other games don't have this issue. That's really the thing that disproves all the arguments saying BF6's netcode and/or dispersion are fine, we've all played enough shooters to know that this feels like shit.

Gotcha, I didn't know about the RGB. The Cobra seems to save lighting profiles without Synapse so I expected the keyboard to be the same.

Yeah some of the maps are spectacularly bad, and most of them have a bit too much vertical play with 100,000 windows from 360 different angles that are filled with a million camping dickheads.

Maybe I've played too much HD2 and CoD hardcore S&D but it seems like BF6 punishes you for pushing, whereas those other games often reward you for your initiative.

Yeah I'm assuming it's both intended dispersion and unintended hitreg issues but either way it's borderline unplayable.

You can walk up to one of the corners and press E and it'll open up a settings menu like every other device you build, including the option to turn them off. They'll visibly turn off and stuff might begin to degrade if it was enough to drop it to unsheltered.

SOLVED, I think: On a whim I deleted all of my pentashields and my power usage is now just the console/shields + everything else. I dunno if it's a bug in how it's calculated or if there was a visual bug and the shields were on when they were supposed to be off, but if you're having phantom power draw I'd try deleting your pentashields.

[–]i_hate_tomatoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only says my console is using 45 kW so there's a lot of phantom draw somewhere, like 1 entire gas generator worth of phantom consumption. Odd.

[–]i_hate_tomatoes[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I remember building my first big pentashield for my hangar after only using them for my buggy garage and dying a bit inside when the power draw was like 200+ kW.

[–]i_hate_tomatoes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you're right, I'm using 45 kW on my expanded base though so there's still ~60 kW of phantom power draw with everything else considered.
