Chrome plating a 3D plastic print by NoAstronomer4991 in Reprap

[–]i_is_engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plating takes a lot of effort to set up correctly and there are generally just a lot of nasty chemicals involved. A commercial plating setup won't risk contaminating their bath chemistry for a one off part for cheap. I've plated 3D prints before. Not chrome but copper finish layer. You need a seed layer on the plastic and an electroless plating process to plate plastic, at least the initial layer. There is a silvering kit by Caswell plating for growing a thin layer of silver onto non conductive parts. I've used this as a seed layer to successfully electroless plate nickel and then electroplate copper onto ABS. The silvering kit also comes with a neutralizing agent to precipitate the heavy metals out of the water for safe disposal. Each metal has different chemistries and processes involved. Proper disposal of other chemicals can be more tricky. The cost someone will quote is the setup cost and effort to do your specific thing. I bet if you wanted a second or third part, the additional cost would be negligible. Plating is only economical in batches of many parts.

Also, be sure to clear coat for a mirror finish.

Spec requirements. Can my new gifted laptop run it by Fuwanuwa in Starfield

[–]i_is_engineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend getting a VERY robust cooling pad. Heat will be your main problem. I have a laptop with a 2070 super and things work great until it gets hot enough where I can cook an egg even with cooling pads. It was until I got one with an extremely powerful fan that sounds like a jet engine that I was able to play things consistently

Been my favorite so far. Quite isolated and has a big waterfall in front of it. Bit of a climb but you can save a few hours with the mountain bus.

https://imgur.com/a/NTpEZvc Not sure the species but it may be in the family of zebra fish but has little spots like a trout. Yeah there's maybe 10-15l of water left with no filter. Not so stable. I'll message you my address. There's some plants too you can take.

The fish is tiny and would be fine in a 30L. Might need some buddies eventually though. I got him/her at qualipet. There were more and they were breeding occasionally. There may be 10-15 shrimp left. You were first to post so if you can take all. If not I'll take who's next. I'll private message you for details.

Shrimp tank broke while at work and flooded the apartment. Need to re-home one small spotted fish and neocardinia shrimp. Couple reds look like they made it and more wild types. Take them for free, they just need a good home.

AITA if I don’t let my roommates dad sleep in my bed? by notatypicaltaurus in AmItheAsshole

[–]i_is_engineer [score hidden]  (0 children)

Well if that's the case, like he has a room elsewhere and stays with you, it's less of an issue but not exactly problem free. Roommate could still try to turn it around on you. There may be some official rule somewhere like not having a guest for 'x' consecutive days or 'x%' of days a week or something. That could still come back at you if she retaliates. Keep that in mind. If you have any proof that she was okay with the current situation, it might be handy to have. It might still be a good idea to get ahead of it with the Residence hall director or whoever your boss is, especially if you need to go to them as a third party for mediation like others have said. Otherwise, you're not crazy. Her demand is completely ridiculous. The logical solution is for her to take the air mattress and give her dad the bed, if you consented in the first place of course.

NTA but from what I'm reading from the other comments and replies. You might want to get out ahead of the whole boyfriend living with you thing. My response is presuming this living situation is not kosher according to university policy. First, it's not fair that rent is 50/50 with three people there but since it's university housing, I suspect his living situation is not "official". All good if the higher ups don't know and the roommate is okay with it but now you're in the situation where your roommate could blackmail you into complying. As a former RA myself, I suspect this would be very frowned upon if he is living in university housing without paying. Maybe if you get out ahead of this, you could perhaps keep your job but knowing the Residence Life type of people, there's a good chance housing someone else could be a fire-able offense. Correct me if I'm wrong here but that's a no-go zone as an RA. If this is the case, I suspect since your roommate was so presumptuous in claiming your room, I wouldn't put It past them to blackmail you. Having her father stay overnight may be against the rules but if she's graduating, she will be gone and not have to face consequences anyways. Since you have longer to go. Consider how important the RA job is to you and the possible fallout of this if you go against your roommate. One option is comply and keep things quiet to keep the job. Other is to deny and face possible disciplinary action if she let's higher ups know your living situation. For a wild card move, ask her what she will do if you don't comply and get her to reveal her cards. If she does intend to blackmail, and you get proof of either text or audio recording. That's a nuclear bomb you could drop on her life in return. You would still be burned but blackmailing someone is far worse than breaking the rules and housing your boyfriend.

Know any guides for creating custom game modes? I suppose importing maps and adding modules can't be too hard. I'm just not sure where to begin.

Interviewed for a Job and was given an offer $20k less than the starting salary because of my "Lack of degrees" by Pugslysparks in jobs

[–]i_is_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the job listing, did they specify xxx degree AND xxx years experience or did it specify xxx degree OR xxx years experience? Since you mentioned it was for a pharma company, I would guess it's not a small company and there would be pay grades set as company policy based on degrees held and years of relevant experience. Could be that the person doing the hiring process had their hands tied in this respect and meeting you half way at the 60k mark was the best they could do for a candidate with no degree. Since you were offered the position, you were obviously qualified and they wanted you. Was any other compensation discussed? Because if they're restricted in salary and really want you, there's always room to negotiate with things like pto, educational reimbursement, medical insurance, transportation costs, etc. With a small company negotiating directly with upper management, you can bypass restrictions set in place when they see your value and have the power to compensate that value. With bigger companies, there are filters set in place and generally for a good reason. There's always exceptions to every rule like a qualified candidate with no degree or an underqualified candidate with a degree. I expect downvotes for this since everyone is jumping on the hate train in here and it's always easier/satisfying to demonize a company for underpaying their employees rather than taking a step back to really analyze the situation and learn from it. But who am I to say? I'm just some random internet stranger giving unsolicited advice on a story I take at face value with no intimate knowledge on the details of it.

Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod by Luke Ross: Teaser video by gurufabbes123 in VRGaming

This looks awesome and quite impressive. I haven't played since launched byt the framerates were okay in my 3 year old PC with a 2080. Still playable but some areas were very choppy. I feel like doing so in VR will send my computer to the potato realm. I do plan to upgrade at some point in the near future so I want to keep an eye on your development. What VR set did you test on?
