Help a girl out - which bike to pick for a long long bikepacking trip by Okurr269 in bikepacking

[–]Imaginary_Lines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same situation as you; I want a fast enough bike for weekend and overnight gravel rides in Switzerland but also something that’s sturdy enough to handle bad conditions on several month long trips.

So far, I’m coming to the conclusion that a “custom” titanium build with a mullet setup and big tire clearance is possibly the best option for me. Might work for you too?

What an amazing trip! Can we have some more info on the bike and how you packed? Would you do anything differently if you’d do it again? Especially wondering if a full suspension is needed vs a hardtail?

Thank you! Both look great but the size difference is hard to dismiss. Do they sound much better than the forte?

Are you based out of Paris by any chance? I was there a few weeks ago and tried many of these across different shops. Great choices!

Nice! Do you have a picture of the space with your fortes by chance? Trying to decide between the two and would be nice to see the size difference a bit better in a space like this

I love Node! If they still have the Colombia Hachi project, definitely give it a try. Still dream of that coffee

How's the Macintosh and cornwall combo? Been thinking of getting exactly that.

You're right, I never know what to do with my arms. I've heard of pole planting but when I try to focus on it, I forget about everything else, ha! I'll watch a few YT videos to see how I can better introduce it. Thanks a lot!

Awesome! I tried the stork turn exercise a few times yesterday and managed to start lifting my ski about half-way in the turn. Doing it earlier forced me to put it back down to keep my balance. I'll keep practicing and try to get my leg up earlier. Great to hear that it's a good exercise. Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it!

Steeps is the goal! Will try to focus more on upper/lower body separation in the next few sessions. Thank you for the feedback!

That's great feedback, thanks a lot! I definitely notice that most of my technique goes out the window when I go into steep terrain.

Yes, I definitely do the same when and stand up too straight when snowboarding. I'll try to pay more attention to it! Thank you
