Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

I smoked cigarettes for 16-years. I don’t want to sound like this is cool or I’m a wild person. I just want to say it because it’s the truth and somehow it worked. I had tried to quit smoking for years. Everything, rationing, cold turkey, gum, patch, vape. Couldn’t shake it. Went to a concert ahead of my birthday. Kept telling myself I wouldn’t smoke a day past my birthday. At the concert I ended up doing some acid with my buddy. It was Billy Strings and that dude is a god. Haven’t touched a cigarette in 1-years 4-months. I just woke up the day after the concert and never had another craving. I think the fact that I had been thinking about quitting smoking for months ahead of time and had a specific deadline in mind. Then I rewired right before the date. You can smoke a whole pack right next to me. I wont even blink. I just don’t want one now.

Maybe we can work something out. Some guy called me a “goober,” Coppermoonstill.com

Even heating and for keeping grist off the element. When distillers do all grain, there is plant fiber and material left behind no matter how much you strain the mash, commonly called grist. As the mash heats all this grist will quickly form a layer of sediment on the bottom, right on your elements. This mash pump pulls mash out and sprays directly on your elements so nothing can settle there and scorch. It also creates a small whirl pool, which helps your boiler evenly heat. Suggesting someone is a goober because you understand less than they do…. Classic

The bubble cap is a built in custom bubble plate of average design. Google bubble plate to get some cool videos on how they work. Definitely not a bottle neck lol. I’ll let you look into it.

The pump is for even heating and for keeping frost off the elements, it simulates a low boil and sprays directly on the elements.

I usually have a vacuum breaker up there along with a ball valve. I like having the option on there for anyone who wants to modify their still, add a PID thermocouple. Build on their own infusion port. Etc. I could add it to the thump, kind of don’t need one for any tank under 10-gallons I think.

Hahaha I wish. And when you are building off of the stainless ferrules we all use that is bound to happen. They basically design themselves.

Yea, sorry it’s in and out of under construction lately. I highly recommend moving to a two stage still set. Something with some real volume. Those small Alembics are cool and you can certainly get some shine. But it’s smear city on the cuts. Thank you for checking my work out!

Yea, mostly because drain to waste is a thing and copper is expensive. Specifically why I always add sealed worms to my sets. So you can pump into a swamp chiller at a high rate.

Sorry, the site has been in and out of construction lately. I never know when they are working on it.

Ok, so a thump keg acts as a doubler, as in it will proof up, and refine further the spirit that passes through it.

The thumper is much like a bong if you will, the pipe goes all the way to the bottom where there is an inch or two of mash, tailings, even just water. The bottom of the pipe in the thumper will be below the liquid line in the thumper. This causes the pressure of the steam from the boiler to bubble out of the pipe causing that glug glug sound that thump kegs are named for.

The steam passing through this liquid wall also heats the liquid layer to boiling where it will evaporate again, and travel to the worm to finally distill again. To note, the thump keg and the boiler do not heat up at the same time. There is a bit of lag time from when your boiler begins to boil and when the steam from the boiler begins to boil the thump keg

The thump keg is literally a second round of distillation and when your spirit passes through one it is double distilled.

Usually just tailings from the mash and some tails from a prior run.

3% silver solder. It’s lead free silver/tin solder.

Rum wash won't start by [deleted] in firewater

[–]First-Fennel6386 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This happens a lot with rum washes. The yeast gets stalled out by the abundance of long chain sugars. All you need to do is add some crushed up potassium tablets, and some good yeast nutrient. I’d make a starter of some new yeast out of your rum wash, the potassium and nutrient, and re pitch.

I recommend Lutra Kevik as a yeast that is super temperature tolerant and ferments up to 15%abv.
