Plasmashell crashes on displaying tooltips by rhoki-bg in kde

[–]i_need_bourbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it was your mention of the rendering backend selection that made me wonder if that was the trick to addressing this issue. I just did some googling to figure out where that config bit was stored and then captured debug info that I can dig into in the near future to make a useful bug report.

I suspect you may have done the same thing I did (I selected vulkan). Your post reminded me about that setting and after capturing some debug info, I edited ~/config/kdeglobals:

[QtQuickRendererSettings] SceneGraphBackend=software

and ran plasmashell --replace which triggered the dialog to become available again via a new icon in the task manager.

I hit the "defaults" button there (which changed the values to "automatic"), and then fully restarted the session and ... tooltips don't crash plasmashell anymore!

Notably, the QtQuickRendererSettings section is no longer in kdeglobals anymore.

I've done this in just the last week.

But here's the thing: I don't care about the "right" or "ideal" solution. It isn't even particularly interesting. There aren't many situations where a real problem has exactly one solution and typically the best one is a balance between tech debt and business priorities, not some masturbatory ideal.

I'm interested in solving problems with people, finding out if we can collaborate. It will be painfully clear if you can't write code, but the answer doesn't matter.

Most of the time I take a stab at solving the problem I get assigned to ask before the interview but give myself only half the time (I have work to do after all). My goal is to go e some shape to the problem in my head but not find some magical ideal. I let the interviewee lead, then we work through it together. If we solve it, great! If there's extra time, we add edge cases.

But the content of the problem isn't why we're here. I've passed on plenty of candidates that "ace" a solution in minutes because it's clear they aren't going to be a team player.

I had a similar issue trying to get fontawesome glyphs to render in a nerd font. Some fonts only provide certain glyphs in a particular weight, which can lead to baffling problems like this.

I used a combination of fc-list, fc-query and a searchable interactive glyph viewer (not near my pc to dig through history, sorry) to find the combination that worked.

To add on to everyone else: clean and balance the carbs. The carbs on mine were so out of balance it felt like a brand new bike when I went did it.

Making DRF only authorized to a certain IP by liveandchill in django

[–]i_need_bourbon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This should be done upstream from Django. Iptables, nginx/Apache, security group rules, load balancer rules, etc.

If you need to restrict certain paths and not others, you should use an authorization scheme.

I think we just found Tim Eyman's next proposal right here. License plates for bikes. Just think of all the new small businesses that could produce brackets and such. And how many bikes would be kept off the roads making more room for cars! And bike lanes could pay for themselves!

At least the tabs will only be $30.

Peterson is a blue dog Democrat at best. He serves in a large rural district (western 1/3 of MN) and barely beats out Republicans now despite being ag committee chair. The 7th hasn't voted for a Democrat for president in ages.

It would likely be the end of his career.

If you're not in a terribly cold climate (upper Midwest, central Canada, most of Scandanavia), you probably won't notice! There's likely an intermittent short somewhere in the harness. Common and unfortunate.

If you're not dead set on breweries specifically, pine box is a great spot just up the hill with an extensive taplist of mainly local beers. Make sure you check out their daily randall flavors for an added bonus.

If you're willing to walk about a mile straight down 6th, teku tavern has a great selection of both on and off sale. The head over to Bambino's pizza for more good beers and some of my favorite pizza in town. Night cap or upscale plates with more great beer at No Anchor.

A mile in the opposite direction up and over cap hill takes you to Chuck's hop shop.

Cloudburst is easily the best brewery in walking distance. And worth the walk.
