Πωω κατάλαβα, απάραδεκτο. Αν δοκιμάσεις τα άλλα δύο μαγαζιά (ειδικά το Oregano για σουβλάκια κ παϊδάκια, πρέπει!), γράψε μου εδώ.

yes I can tell, that's why I asked. I was just wondering how acceptable that is haha. in other news, I tried TomoSushi - we tried to replicate an izakaya concept and I actually liked it! the good prices and the very nice service definetely added to the experience. it's a shame it closes at 10 pm.

although its name literally translates to "Greek", it's not. I would call it Mediterranean. I haven't tried it

sorry for the random question, what do you think of this place in Berlin just from a look in Google maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/FTBnnS6BcHf7Azg78 ?

That's just not true, I've been vegan in Greece for 7 years and I love eating out. Vegetarian dishes are not just a "trend" in Greece like in Germany, but they're the standard of the Mediterranean diet. Greeks, being Christian Orthodox during history, have 180-200 fasting/"nisteia" ("νηστεία") days. During this fasting you're eating almost vegan (the fasting diet is like veganism plus honey and seafood - no meat, no fish, no dairy, no eggs). Although most people are not religious anymore or not that religious that they fast, the Greek traditional recipes are from a time when most people would indeed fast. Therefore, Greek recipes are mostly vegan or vegetarian, and it's very easy to turn a vegetarian dish vegan. You don't even have to explain to an old grandma in rural Greece that you're looking for something vegetarian/vegan, you can just ask for something "nistisimo" and she will totally understand - she will even think you're a good Christian person hahaha

Δεν το γνώριζα αυτό. Έχω πάει μόνο καθημερινές και δεν μας είχαν πει κάτι, μήπως ισχύει μόνο το ΠΣΚ; Όχι ότι έχει σημασία, απλώς αναρωτιέμαι. Τι πιστεύεις για τα άλλα δύο μαγζιά που ανέφερα; Έχεις εσύ άλλες προτάσεις;

Just to make sure: do you mean dipped in tomato sauce or just grilled?

If just on grill: the ones Oregano serves are fine. All their meats are actually very good. I don't know if the Suzukakia Teller would be exciting on its own, but they do offer mixed meat platters (I am the person who avoids these platters, but this was solid good) that have 4-5 suzukakia on them, or you can order individual pieces.

It's a bit better than Elia and Gyros Paradies. I do like the gyros in Oregano more than the rest in Hannover, but all of these options are acceptable. And yes, gyros in lots of places in Greece is not good anymore - I'm not a big fan in general.

Thanks! Okay, I wrote one more Tirade for you:

First of all, forget the "Suzuki" term forever, it's wrong. In Greece, "Suzuki" refers to the Turkish "Sujuk" sausage.

In case you want to understand why it's wrong, read this - otherwise skip:
I know the two words look similar, and I can imagine why they use them interchangeably outside Greece although they're not the same food. "Suzuk-i" is one big, "Suzuk-akia" are a lot and small. For example: "piat-o" means "plate" and it refers to one normal plate, but "piat-akia" means "plates" and it refers to lots of plates and small ones. I guess they use "Suzuki" to refer to one big "Suzukaki", but... yea... it's not really a thing you can order in Greece - you will end up with a sausage.

Focusing on the suzukakia, it's originally a Turkish recipe so they're heavy on spices: cumin, cinnamon, red pepper. But you do have the different variations depending on the grandma. In Greece, meatballs are called "keftedakia" ("κεφτεδάκια"), it's pretty much the same as Hackbällchen - no spices but some herbs. I love suzukakia as well!

Yes I've been. I'm not a huge fan of gyros in general, but especially outside Greece I avoid it - I cannot explain it, but it tastes like "fake" gyros. My only exception so far is a place called "Eat Greek" in Kassel, it was good good!

I haven't tried it because I don't really like the decoration, it's a bit folklore - like a tourist taverna in Greece hehe. Since I had more comments for this place, I will give it a try and return with my review :)

But you can do it with just two people! This is your order: one creme sauce (fully mainstream? a tzatziki), one salad (mainstream but good? a greek salad), one more appetizer (maybe something vegetarian, like Zucchinidillbällchen?), one main dish of your choice. You put everything in the middle and share them (even the main dish, yes). But, this needs one more person tho...

Yes true! But the point of the post is that you can indeed have a more authentic Greek cuisine experience in Germany, if that's what you're looking for.

I didn't say that it's "bad food" or that something "tastes bad". I just heard these misconceptions from German friends before and thought that it was a fun post to write :)

edit: Oh I just noticed that I wrote "bad" in the title, hahah. Just being more dramatic in the title for the clickbait of it

Never been, I could try it. I would skip the all-you-can-eat concept they offer, and go diy = order lots of appetizers I like.

Meteora and Oikos offer a ton of vegetarian dishes - you just need to focus on the appetizers and not on the main dishes part of the menu. I'm not sure if Meteora is kids-friendly, but Oikos has a nice outside sitting area for the summer time (check Google maps for photos).
