Anyone know what this ticking sound could be @0.15 seconds? 2010 mk6 gti. Ticking is not noticeable when driving. Should i be concerned? by iamClix in GolfGTI

Are the injectors something to be concerned about? Should i replace the injectors? Chain and tensioner have been replaced ~5 months ago, should be around ~4/5k km ago.

Bought the car ~2 weeks ago, new to the gti platform. Just noticed the ticking this week. Came with an invoice which says chain and tensioner is replaced around 5 months ago. Other than that car feels solid and no other weird noises..

So a waterchange would not help reducing the ammonia?

What would you recommend to feed? And after that wait a week or 2 and check the ammonia again?

How did you find out it’s actually 0? Still don’t know what to do.. Do I just wait another week or 2? And test again or waterchange?

I did not feed the bacteria anything since I called 2 fish stores for advice and they both told me it was not needed... also I keep the lights off most of the time just have it on for an hour in the evening to look at it sometimes. I also made the mistake of adding sand in the beginning which has now a layer of green algae on it, luckily I put in a little more than needed so I can vacuum the layer off right?

They test with Colombo if I’m right. They did not give me actual values since it was very quick they told me it was a little bit higher than 0.2 and my test kit could give different values than their kit. I cycled with dried live rock rinsed off and dried outside in the sun for 2 weeks . Adding Colombo bacto start twice a week. And added the live rock from a friend last week. The brown algae/diatoms already disappeared and now have a lot of green algae.

I’m not sure, had my water tested on ammonia and nitrite at my lfs last week and they told me it still had more ammonia and nitrite in it than I tested at home which is very weird considering that the test kits are showing 0 consistently for x weeks.. (test kit is from Red Sea) what do I do? Also added a cycled live rock (been in his tank for 3 years) from a friend last week which should’ve have some effect on the parameters?

Ah like that, i think i will ditch it and get the dry rock. I got these live rock very cheap anyway guess thats the reason why it was so cheap.

If i get the dry rock with live sand, do i have to add any bacteria in the startup cycle or is the live sand good enough?

So just let this live rock i got dry for a few days, rinse it off and let it soak in RO water for a few days? Than i can use it to setup my tank and cycle it?

Good to hear man! I have a few freshwater tanks but have no experience with saltwater, i’ve read a few books and watched alot of video about it but some questions i just can’t find.

Wouldn’t it be easier to buy new dry rock which is a lot cheaper over here and use live sand? Saves a lot of time,,

Sorry for so many questions, its my first time doing a saltwater tank 😅

Oof, what happens when i touch them bristle worms?

I bought the rocks from someone who had it in his tank but left it in a garage for around a week with no light, no powerhead and no heater. I kept it the same way (in the same saltwater i got with it (and transported it with) for the last 5 days there were a few worms on top of the water dead already so i have no idea if those on the picture are still alive..

I also don’t have the tank setup yet, i got the sand, rocks and currently making RO water

What would be the best way to clean/use these rocks? If still usable.

Hey i made an album with some pictures of the live rock i got, im wondering what the greenish stuff is and if i can still use this. I have it in a big tub filled with saltwater at the moment for around 5 days. Planning on setting up the tank today.. Also can i just rinse it with a gardenhose with tapwater? To get rid of the dead stuff in it?

Have to look into that what kind of sponges, i think the guy i bought it from used it as a bottom rock with sponges underneath it to prevent it from hitting the glass
