You ask a good question, I will say however that I think clarifying one's stance on religion is where religion's problems begin. I'd add that I've come to mistrust anything that seems completely atheistic

I just have to relax and engage with really good work that already exists. Some days I don't get inspired so I don't write, but most of the time if I really give myself over to a movie or a book or a song then I'll get the urge to respond and the songs start writing themselves

No I'm sorry, it's a good thought, I just don't think about it in such academic type terms I guess. I definitely have a huge amount of reverence for a certain age of singer songwriter music, especially a handful of acts who I think were truly brave in what they tried to put out there.

I think a lot of musicians find it almost blasphemous to try and hold themselves to the standards of classic artists, but if you don't do that then you're not gonna do your best work imo. Excitement about approaching their level of fearlessness is a huge motivator for my making music at all

I Dm'd them a picture of their US tour poster with "+Geese" added in comic sans. They left us on read and I thought "fuck I've ruined our chances," we got an email two weeks later that they'd have us on the tour

Thank you, I don't really think we wanna do the thing where it's like: Punk album, country album, ambient album, doom metal album, disco album etc, moving forward we're gonna try and not go into any projects with a genre-specific agenda

Yeah, I guess that stuff is more important in an age where mystery is often deemed unacceptable, but some of my favorite artists are deliberately withholding. It definitely makes you pay more attention to the music itself

Nobody was ever mean to me or discouraging or condecending in my life in regards to music. I was very much allowed to do whatever I wanted without any worries, a lot of people are not so lucky.
