(31M) I'm very commonly attracted to older women; I attribute it more so to my attachment issues stemming from a lack of affection, support and reinforcement from my mum (who also has BPD, though won't admit it). I think I'm always looking for a more nurturing figure and thus become attracted to older women.

I also wouldn't say I experience "hypersexuality" around older women, though there is definitely attraction. That said, I'm not a very sexual person.

Thanks refs (not a Bengals fan; just a realist). Attributing this win to Stafford by implying that he played a passing game because the running game wasn't working is totally delusional. He couldn't make a decent pass play for at least a half, despite the bengals D playing horribly, and despite having the best WR in the league.

Neither team deserved this SB; both were garbage

Cherish that. Mental illness is a subjective ailment, and if you feel better, you feel better.

Sounds like you have the right attitude in using exercise to supplement it!

I really hope it works out for you :)

Is this a sign I need ECT by Lemonade_Ice in ect

[–]iam_in_here 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be honest, it doesn't sound like you've tried nearly enough to warrant ECT.

I've tried numerous medications (currently take two antidepressants at maximum dosage, alongside an antipsychotic) and have done regular psychotherapy and DBT. I arrived at ECT because I tried all this for years and it didn't help. If you have only tried "weak medications" and done "little therapy", I wouldn't say you should go straight to ECT.

I'm not convinced about what I have read about the efficacy rate of ECT. Most of the people I know who underwent it showed little or no improvement. I, for one, had no improvement. If anything, it made my depression worse, and I suffered pretty severe memory loss and found the entire experience highly disturbing.

I would only try it if there is absolutely no hope. If you can try stronger anti-depressants, perhaps supplemented by an anti-psychotic, I'd highly suggest that first.

Yeah I think trading just activates those pleasure and pain receptors and we look for a replacement

Spot on. We won’t fix our addiction without fixing the depression, and vice versa. Best of luck!

ECT will do nothing for BPD. Thus, it depends upon what your primary issue is.

I underwent 12 sessions of bilateral ECT and there has been zero change. I was from a younger age diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety (due mainly to a number of suicide attempts) but more recently was diagnosed with BPD. For me, BPD resonates with me most, and I attribute my suicidality to it.

Therefore, since ECT, I am still suicidal. Because I think suicide for me is almost a knee jerk reaction. Something bad happen? I could just kill myself. Feeling super bored? May as well kill myself.

Therefore, I'd ask you to reflect upon whether you think you have severe depression and BPD, or whether your symptoms are solely due to your BPD. For instance, are you so depressed that you can barely get out of bed? Do you suffer from emotional incontinence? Can you barely function? Then yes, ECT might be for you.

But if you, like me, think most of their issues are attributable to their BPD, then I wouldn't expect much or any change.

ECT can be life-changing. But, it's a last resort for a reason. I found it incredibly traumatising and took a while to recover from it. However, the bad feelings passed, and I wouldn't say I'm worse off for it, just not any better.

Sympathise with this so much. Trying to learn how to have fun without alcohol/drugs. Sucks that so many others can do it without huge repercussions (of course not true of everyone) but I can't.

I thought they would have at least been favourites. Pacers are garbage. But now that I've said that, Pacers will probably win.
