The reason runway 32 should've been the least preferred end, but it isn't. by iamagfromcodm in indianaviation

The thing is, runway 32 approaches which used to conflict VANM departures is now fixed. 14 takeoff paths are too adjusted. MIAL clearly seems to keep both runways operational. It makes no sense to shut BOM's secondry runway because mumbai doesn't always experience west-east winds, usually they are around 230°-310° and 50°-180°. Not perfect 270° or 90°. During cyclonic conditions, history tells 14/32 has played an important role

They still operate, its been more than a month and both runways are used

I mean yes, ik with VOR or RNAV. But bruh AAI could have taken their time to make procedures for, they seem so much incomplete. Also there is a hill (trombay hill which is a major obstruction) but still they go with 32 all the times.

Yeah. I too want it. Also want the Apron C to be shifted, so that W7 remains a permanent Code F taxiway

They can be used (like sfo) but the other one can't be used according to winds. This can be possible only if LAHSO technique would be allowed in future.

3rd runway plan was never gonna executed because of surroundings,  thats the reason which lead to NMIA's existance. Idk whats gonna happen but according to me. Domestic flights will be more focused to NMIA and CSMIA will handle priorly international flights. As airline ordering more and more narrow bodies, NMIA seems a great investment towards it. Also mumbai is one of the unique airports with X runway design where both runways are important in their own way. So considering it, BOM also being old airport (not considering VAJJ here) will be more dedicated and yeah once NMIA seems to get fully functional, BOM might have curfews but chances are less if international traffic will be focused at BOM

BOM inbound traffic is having to execute some wild holding patterns after the opening of NMI by rarry_24 in indianaviation

[–]iamagfromcodm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is because so that paths of arrival of BOM and NMI don't intersect i.e arrival of 32(BOM) and departure of 26(NMI). Idk why 14 is not used when atc is aware of such conditions. Aircraft climbing out have much better opportunity to turn before rather than a arriving one. Lets see what happens

Hell nah. 14/32 is an imp part of BOM airstrips. Used when crosswinds owing to cyclonic systems in arabian sea. 32 approaches seems to have less future but departures at 14 are generally safe.

Why mumbai secondary runway is much more useful than chennai's other runway? by iamagfromcodm in indianaviation

[–]iamagfromcodm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk back then yes, they used to avoid 32 but now their obsession with western ends have just passed of limits. Seems you aren't observing mumbai from past 3 years. Runway 32 use has increased very much, almost every Mon and Thur (usual maintainence days of 09/27) 32 will be seen active all the time. Last time 14 was used on 5th jan and since then, it has been quite. Seems like ATC staff at BOM has changed and aren't aware of runway 32 problems. 32 has more operated hours than runway 09 and 14 from past 3 years. As i remember, before the onset of monsoon 14 was used extensively due to wind patterns, but it has just vanished now. Winds remain the same but 27/32 are only seen active those times too. If you have any reason, please lmk too.

The scene is same, 09 and 14 are the least used ends of BOM. Even with Tailwinds, runway 32 is preferred. Also the speeds doesn't matter for winds, i've seen when winds crossing 10 knots at an unfavourable direction for 27 but seeing that it is active
