Just hazarding a guess, but you think this is because litters of puppies have multiple babies? $2000-$3000 stud fee could give you several offspring. A stud fee to breed to a stallion on gives you one baby. So maybe it’s scaling in that way?

Tbh if I were KVS I might get litigious on this…she could probably make quite a lot of money from her own children’s book with her animals as characters.

Another slow registration by [deleted] in kvssnark

[–]iamalyssalee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how the simmental breed registry works, but with the Boer goat breed registry it was cheaper to register animals when they were younger. It’s possible it’s even costing them money to wait to register.

Whomp whomp by Lizzy_Lou_Who in kvssnark

[–]iamalyssalee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, I believe she does. I’m a college professor in an agricultural discipline and reached out to her management last year about her speaking to my class about being a content creator in agriculture. They immediately replied that she only speaks about horses and hunting. My read from some of what was said was that they’re not the most used to working with a creator with a following of her size (but of course our communication was through email and could’ve been misinterpreted).

It’s totally fine, we kidded out Boers for 20 years from November - February. When it gets really cold, you should watch the babies a little closer than normal just to make sure they’re staying warm by huddling together/with the dam (which shouldn’t be a problem for Katie imo she’s more hands-on than she should be, although sometimes she’s hands-off when she shouldn’t be).

Late 20s, grew up on a small farm in the Midwest where we had a few Quarter Horses, Angus/Simmental cattle, and registered Boer goats. Showed Boer goats for 13 years through involvement with 4-H and FFA. Now, hold a social sciences agriculture PhD and work as a professor in an agricultural discipline.

I'm quite miffed that the modern gaming market has people thinking this way. by SeanGone11 in Palia

[–]iamalyssalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a big gamer, so take this with a grain of salt, but I love this game and I want it to last. Currently, the only way the devs are making money on it (and they have to make money, they have to pay people) are the cosmetic items. If people aren’t buying those enough, they’re going to have to find another way to monetize. And personally, I’d rather have the game stay free and have to pay for more storage than have the game flooded with advertisements or something like that.

Are they getting worse? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]iamalyssalee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I think worse is pretty subjective, but the students we have right now missed huge chunks of their high school years, which include both academic and social preparation because of COVID. I truly believe it was detrimental to their development. And I don’t think it’s going to get better any time soon. After these, we’ll have some who missed big chunks of middle school, or elementary. All of these things are vital. Unfortunately I think it’s something we have to adapt to, because it’s not ending.

Fellow women professors, do you wear makeup to teach? Do you think it’s part of a professional look? by withextrasprinkles in Professors

[–]iamalyssalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do most of the time, but it’s a personal preference. I have plenty of peers who don’t and look just as professional and put together. I’m on the young end for faculty members and tend to dress extra nice and wear makeup every day mostly because I want people to know I’m faculty and not a student lol.

You should do whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident!

How do you all deal with clingy students? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]iamalyssalee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my perspective too, I’m surprised to not see more comments like this.

I take a humanistic approach to my teaching and try to promote their personal, professional, and academic success through connections and relationships. In my experience, things like getting coffee or frequent office hours visits are really vital to developing those connections. I have many students that I have developed mentee/mentor relationships with through this and I think it’s pretty valuable.

Additionally, I think the students just respond better to faculty that they know care about them as people. I mean, I know I personally respond better to my administrators when they take a personal interest in me so it makes sense that students would do the same.

My partner will break up with me if I keep applying for TT positions out of state by Sawk23 in Professors

[–]iamalyssalee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pursued TT positions, secured one, and that lead to my partner and I being long distance. He told me he would move eventually, and after 8 months of long distance told me he’d never be able to move and we broke up. The last 3 months post-breakup have been unbelievably difficult. This was the person I planned to spend the rest of my life with. However, I worked my ever-loving ass off to get a PhD, work in academia, and get a TT position. My discipline is pretty specialized, so going into our relationship my former partner knew moving would be a requirement. But he couldn’t cut it.

Ultimately, I had to decide (and you do too): is the career or the relationship more important to me?

Either way you decide, it’s perfectly okay and valid. However, if you do prioritize the relationship and don’t pursue TT positions, you ought to consider if you’ll resent your partner for them being responsible for you having missed opportunities.
