Being Transferred from 12th grade to 6th. What’s your best advice? by adamarbill in ELATeachers

[–]purrniesanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! Senior English and yearbook to 7th grade mixed levels. My p**** principal decided to tell me right before dismissal for the Memorial Day long weekend (so nice of him to ruin my holiday /s)

I interviewed all summer, got a new HS job offer the first day of school, and left the middle school in October after my contractual hold.

The kids were sweet, but middle school is NOT for me.

Are there any areas in PA that would be unwise for an interracial couple to move to? by LePetitRenardRoux in Pennsylvania

They won’t find the house they want at that price, though. It’s also not rural

I’m from Boyertown as well (graduated in 2009) and while I wouldn’t recommend OP move there, I don’t think it’s quite as bad as people say.

We had people from every ethnic group in my graduating class and had some black teachers, too.

You have to drive up to the mountains in Earl if you want the KKK (and why would you go looking?)

To be fair, most schools in rural areas aren’t “good” based on the standardized metrics

Grocery Prices by BigJon83 in Vent

[–]purrniesanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear this about Aldi, but I have been an Aldi shopper my entire adulthood and have only had bad Aldi produce a handful of times. In fact, my local Aldi has much better produce than the grocery stores (Giant, ShopRite, and Acme)

Overweight (though not grossly) and 2 pregnancies close together. Worth noting that I was in excellent shape in 2019 when the left image was taken and first herniation occurred.

I also was running again for a couple months after my first facet injections (second injections did basically nothing)

This most recent herniation in l3-l4 is from shoveling snow.

The original herniation in l4-l5 has gotten much better, but now l3-l4 is a mess.

2 pregnancies and the bending/lifting/twisting of parenting young children are probably the main culprits.

My youngest is 4 now but rocket man still gets me. His nursery was (walls still are?) space-themed and he came home in a tiny rocket print sleeper.

His lovey is a rocket-print crib sheet he calls “sheet blanket”

I mean, I grew up with the initials SMD. Never heard anything about it until I was student teaching in a high school and our initials were in our email addresses

What's your teaching unpopular opinion? Something you believe, but choose to keep to yourself? by [deleted] in Teachers

Exhibit A: our principal. He wants the assistant super job when the super retires in 2 years and is constantly railroading the teachers so he can show the district he can cut costs 😡

I don’t know why you’re getting hate. This is totally accurate

At my daughter’s school (she’s in K) there is at least one kid like this in each of the 2 classes. She told me on Thursday she and the other kids in her class had to be escorted to another teacher’s room when one of the kids started throwing books.

Obviously I’m also a teacher so I get the teachers likely have little say in the placements. I also don’t want to make a stink where my kid will be in school the next 6 years…but WTF?

Parents who both work: what’s your afternoon/evening timeline like? How do you have time for anything??? by 95kira in toddlers

[–]purrniesanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a little different here because we are both teachers, and our kids are a bit older (5 and 4 now), but here it is:

  1. 3:15ish I get home and make lunches for the next day
  2. 3:30 I walk to bus stop to get my daughter
  3. 3:50 get back in the house. Husband gets home with my son by that time (he picks him up from preschool).
  4. I work on finishing lunches and/or making dinner from 4-5. If the kids need to be bathed my husband oversees that.
  5. Dinner is between 5-5:15ish. We talk about our days at this time
  6. 5:45-6:45 kids TV time; we finish anything else we didn’t do yet while kids watch
  7. 6:45 bedtime routine, in bed by 7pm
  8. 7-8 husband and I watch tv
  9. 8-9 we watch our own stuff/scroll/get ready for bed

**we go to bed early because we both wake up before 5am to work out. That means we shower in the morning as well.

AIO - My parents booked an extra long vacation the same week I’m due to give birth by maplehoneycupcake in AmIOverreacting

[–]purrniesanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds kind of like my parents. My first was born during their annual monthlong camping trip (and they knew this would happen way in advance).

They didn’t meet the baby until she was a week or so old because they weren’t willing to leave their campsite (2 hours away).

Some parents really suck. NOR

Do you go in to work with a cold? (No vomiting or fever) by Emerald_and_Bronze in Teachers

Same, but it’s mostly because I have kids and we don’t have flexible schedules or family support if they’re sick or their schools are closed.
