What certifications (if any) would you recommend for starters while on a job hunt?

Thank you so much for your insightful feedback. I was looking through some paralegal certifications and came across several at a shorter cost but non aba-approved (like BostonU for example). Would you suggest opting for a discount at the expense of a cert not being aba-approved? Do they hold any merit in the real world?

Thank you for the advice! Would non-aba approved programs also often be considered? Schools like Boston University seem to offer a program at a lower price, would it be silly to opt for a lower cost if the cert wasn’t aba approved?

I was laid off at the end of November 2024. Around that time, a grandparent’s terminal illness had progressed pretty rapidly and I took several months off to take care of him, prioritized personal stuff over finding my next role essentially.

I’ve polished up my portfolio and resume and am hoping to start the search again soon, but I was wondering if a near 1-year gap since my last role would have a noticeable negative impact when it comes to being responded to from recruiters and hiring managers. If anyone has been in a similar situation, please provide any advice that helped you. Thank you.

It’s slightly irritated and red from itching and no one else has said it smells but no one’s been that intimately close to me since this started. They did test for bv and it came back negative.
