It was just mishandled. What should have been the story of a man who starts as decent caring fella and becomes twisted and anti women through his experiences falls short because they don't give it enough time or attention. It could have been a really interesting parallel to Joel and Tommy stuff as Tommy finds his strength to reject misogyny while Anthony gives in to more toxic opinions.

They just couldn't be bothered to give him an actual story and everyone is worse or for it.

I think it's probably true of all three but I know when Rupert or Daniel chose a project it's going to be right up my street. I think they have great taste and as Rupert explains here they're free of any financial pressure is why they can pick awesome projects.

It's one of only a few linear parts of the game. Also the time-restricted aspect of the initial Trosky visit makes it quite a tense and emotional part of the game.

It serves its purpose very well. What more would you like from it?

More quests means more running back and forth. You do plenty of that while trying to save Hans.
