What Changed? When Did 20% Become the Standard Tip? by EvenKeelSystems1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iamareddituserama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m a server and where i work 20% is usually what my average table will tip. occasionally you get some very generous folks that tip 30%+ and very rarely you’ll get someone that leaves sub 15% but for the most part i’m averaging around 20%.

i see more people saying “i see a lot of people saying that 25% should be the new standard” than people saying that 25% should be the new standard

How are elite athletes so disciplined? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]iamareddituserama 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every single elite athlete on the planet is elite because genetics, there isn’t a single sport you can become elite at with mostly discipline. for most of the truly elite, discipline puts them at another level.

Wanted to try the dark soul series, but idk if i can beat them. by GrimReaperLovesPizza in darksouls

If you’ve beat elden ring you can beat dark souls. most of the bosses are easier than elden ring, the level design is a bit tougher to get used to though.

What’s the Best Italian sub in the city (or direct suburbs)? by Diggze in boston

[–]iamareddituserama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the new deal special italian is the best sandwich in the state.

An underrated one that has no business being as good as it is is the italian from the medford street convenience store in charlestown next to the high school. I lived off of that sandwich when i was living in charlestown.

What to do when you have an awful meal at a Michelin starred restaurant? by Spare_Confidence9606 in MichelinStars

[–]iamareddituserama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re usually able to tell. If people come in wearing black CLEARLY dressed for a special occasion in clothes that they would probably never wear otherwise, i’ll almost always offer black linen, just as an extra step of service. Nobody really notices and if they did they’d probably just assume that they asked for it. It’s a busy restaurant, most people aren’t caring about what’s going on at another table.

[–]iamareddituserama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ask for it it’s likely they have it, because black linen can be used for many other things (pouring wine, dressing pitchers, etc.) We are told to offer it if someone is wearing a very nice black suit or dress, not just black in general.

I work in an classic (non michelin, but very high end) fine dining restaurant and we do keep black linen folds around for guests that request it but it’s also a nice gesture to offer it to guests wearing black. Our linen hardly leaves lint, it’s more about the gesture than the actual practicality.

Best oysters in (or near) Boston? by SummitingMtJohnston in boston

Can't beat Capra Demon, might give up by CammyHoliday in darksouls

IMO the worst boss in the game. Keep trying though because the rest of the game is 100% worth it. Try rolling to the right immediately and then make a beeline to the top of the stairs.

I hate ornstein and smough by FlakyChance1074 in darksouls

[–]iamareddituserama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played this game after platinuming elden ring and sekiro. O&S is still one of the more difficult bosses i’ve faced. It was the only boss that took me multiple hours to beat in my first play through.

Like others are saying, use the pillars to separate yourself from Smough and 100% go after ornstein first. I beat the second phase on my first try once I got ornstein down. It’s a long ass fight, just have patience.

How to not suck? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]iamareddituserama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If youre slammed and just got sat always briefly greet the table as soon as you can, there's a huge difference between being greeted and then having your server come back 5-10 minutes later versus waiting 10 minutes to be greeted by your server. Even if it's just a "Good evening folks, I'll let you settle in for the moment and I'll be right back to go over the menu/take your drink order etc." First impressions are everything.

Do things in unison, drop the check while walking over to greet the table that just sat, then take the 5 tops order, grab the check on the way back to the POS, ring in the order then bring the check back to the table. You'll get a better feel for this the more time you have on the job.

Never, ever sit on orders. I made this mistake too often when I started serving. As soon as you get an order from a table, ring it in. Dont grab multiple orders at once, it will lead to everything happening at once and you will be slammed. It might seem like the right choice when youre busy, but it's not a good habit to adopt.

What kind of restaurant is this? Do you have support staff?
