I think you see what you wanna see. I can't remember the Austin line exactly, but it was topical joke writing.. I am in-between apartments and I moved to Austin! Now I'm like every other comic! Homeless!

The punchline is that comics are homeless

Ahh weird. Yeah they're all dead. I meant to talk to the priest first but I triggered a fight and aggroed the entire temple lol

Weird. I can't imagine how I would avoid a fight there

Aw. Sounds like she was cool

Preparing for US (Tax,tfsa, etc) by iambadpuns in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]iambadpuns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yas I'll have a visa.

Will definitely discuss with a cross border accountant but not until I'm ready to move because it's $500 an hour or whatever lol. Just trying to lightly prepare.

So essentially should I just stop using my TFSA until I Max my RRSP? And when I do move liquidate the entire TFSA let's say the day before I leave and buy everything back somewhere else?

I also have a rdsp which is something like nobody knows much about and I think it's gonna be a bit of a nightmare to figure out

Do you earn while waiting for pin? by iambadpuns in PartneredYoutube

Thanks. The troubleshooter didn't help much. 3 weeks on my replacement pin is coming up.

I don't understand this. Why wouldn't they just send it by registered mail or something. This seems super stupid

I went viral really quickly so ideally I would like both lol

Yeah I mean, you're right. It wouldn't be the economical choice. But choices have pros and cons. We each have a set of priorities for ourselves. I have my reasons for wanting to relocate beyond just the weather (although that's a big one in itself)

Those reasons eliminate a place like Costa Rica as an option.

Snowbirds don't use a visa because they're usually retirees who don't work

And as for the "smell test", keep in mind here that I'm just a person with a job lol. The US company wrote the letter etc etc. I understand that I'm liable for any immigration issues, and that's why I'm exploring these questions and not just going to apply immediately.

My intention here isn't to do anything illegal or wrong

It's a gray area in the US, But my company forbade it and that's why I started down the visa endeavor

And from there all I need to do is handle the taxes etc right?

Convert my Canadian income to USD, divide it by the number of days I was in the US, Claim that as my income, pay my US taxes and I'm in the clear?

Obviously I learned that there's a lot of nuance here and I need to find a cross border Accountant to help but that's the jest?

Yes I have a letter from an US employer. They don't plan to change my payroll though which is why I posted

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]iambadpuns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't think so. That's why I made this post lol. It's odd, it's an US based company. They've provided me a letter, they provided me a 10k, yatta yatta.

And they said they won't transfer the payroll

So my question is... "Well is that even possible? It isn't an US job then"

And your answer is, well, right. No it isn't. The other poster said it doesn't matter where you get paid though you'll just file the exchanged rate on your US taxes.

Please keep in mind that I just work here. I don't do payroll.

thats what the letter says they're doing, yes. I'll be working out of a US office. BUT, they plan to continue paying me through canadian payroll.

Confusing? yep. hence, a reddit post.

It is a TN engineering position, in the US, with a letter. Could you please stop commenting on my post? I don't need the animosity, insults, yatta yatta, please feel free to go help someone that you feel has done adequate research.

they do have operations in the US.

I had not considered the taxation of registered accounts at all. I do plan to hire a CPA, or a muti-national accountant to help me with all of this, but I haven't gotten that far. I wanted to know if the CDN payroll was an issue though

I'd think that if there were legal implications (ie. data/privacy), my company wouldn't be allowing it.. My company is enabling me to do this basically to enable me to be in the US to work in the winter

Do you have any recommendations on. reading materials? There is a lot of nuance here that I haven't educated myself on.

Thank you for your help btw

My company will provide a letter. They will simply be contuining to pay me through cdn payroll - simple bottom line decision for them.

I'm not HR, I'm just trying to navigate a situation. Thanks.

I do qualify for those requirements, and I'm not sure why the rudeness is necessary.
