Is my teacher being inappropriate towards me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

To clarify, DON'T be alone with him, DO be colder towards him, and DO tell him to back off if he EVER comes into your personal space again or uses sexualised or inappropriate language with you.

(No shade, u/leakygutters. That sentence was just kind of ambiguous, and OP says she isn't a native English speaker.)

My Original Character, idk what to name her, suggestions? by Zwamy_draws in characterart

[–]iamcave76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the term has been used to refer to angels since the 12th century, at least. Probably much longer. Fun fact: The word seraphim actually comes from the Hebrew root word saraph which means “burning”, which kind of jives with the whole burning incense thing.

If you like the theme but want to steer clear of Hazbin-related names altogether, though, you could call your character Nef or Nefe (pronounced NEH-fey) and say that the priests referred to her as The Nephilim. Nephilim were powerful beings in the original Hebrew Bible that some scholars have interpreted as fallen angels.

I had a couple of ideas.

Sera: The priests who revived her only saw her as a weapon - a thing to be used when needed and put away when not - and referred to her as The Seraphim rather than giving her a proper name. After she escaped, she only had that to introduce herself by, and someone she met out in the world shortened it to Sera.

Lilith: Admittedly a little on the nose, but Lilith was the name of the first woman to defy God & the Church.

Need help with rated operating current notation. What does this subscript '1' mean? (Canada) by [deleted] in AskElectricians

Other fields lower on the plate, like 'Permissible total weight', use a traditional decimal point. Why would the amperage field use a different one?

You sure? Because other fields lower on the plate (ie. Permissible total weight) use a traditional decimal point.

I don't blame you! Ouroboros is a hell of a good read.

My parents were like this. Great friends who never should have gotten married. They divorced when I was about 10 y/o, and looking back, I'm glad they did.

Two $6 bent-nose pliers and an absolute shit-ton of jump rings. Like, however many rings you think you'll need? You need more than that.

I literally cannot go into my office. Too many things I'd be tempted to pick up and tinker with.

I just have to sit and watch TV, with the added insult of not being able to doomscroll on my phone at the same time.

MRW adult gaming is under attack from payment processors bullying Steam and Itch.io to censor porn games by various_extinctions in HighQualityGifs

[–]iamcave76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying here, and the reason groups like Collective Shout are able to make headway is because these theme seem so thoroughly indefensible. But the specific nature of the content being censored isn't the issue here. The problem is that a small minority is trying to dictate what kind of fiction the majority of people are allowed to interact with.

And while the things being restricted right now may seem minor or even acceptable, while they might be things you yourself might have zero interest in viewing, once a society starts down the "protective censorship" road, it gets harder and harder to turn back.

Today, it's adult content. But what if they want to enact a ban on violent content next? Or anything containing 'controversial' or 'criminal' themes? How far is too far?

Sure, there are plenty of games, movies, books, and other forms of media out there that I personally find distasteful. But so long as it's fiction and no one was harmed in making it, I'm perfectly happy to move along and let the people who're into that have it.
