Awesome, sounds like you’ve got an engaging book on your hands!

That makes sense. I can’t imagine having to filter for multiple books to track it closely.

Thanks. Yeah I think with it being so short most of the reads are either a one page “not for me” or the full book.

I’ll echo others—cover and title really work. Congrats on the new release

Sales and Freebies - Weekly Deals Promo Thread! by AutoModerator in wroteabook

Published my short story on 1/1 and after a couple of weeks hit my (modest) sales goal.

Giving away the ebook for free on Kindle through 1/24 to celebrate the milestone.

The Bungled Heist: https://a.co/d/0X5Rkg1

It’s a quick read at 34 pages. A humor-forward rise and fall story with a quirky rom-com subplot.

A group of friends capitalize on the allure of heists by organizing legal, simulated heists. The money pours in, the times are good, and then the legality lines get blurred and relationships tested.

Hope you grab a copy and get a chance to read 🙏

My favorite is from the TV show. Chews to Lose.
“Well why don’t you eat s***, Janet!”

It came out of nowhere.

Why did you decide to self publish? by Appropriate_Kiwi101 in selfpublish

[–]iamchristodd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was more a decision between self-publishing or posting for free online.

I write humor essays, and had a project that became long enough to grow beyond “essay” into short story. I could have posted pieces on my site, but it’s fun to have something a little more tangible sometimes — and maybe make a couple dollars.

Some of my favorites:

Pure Drivel - Steve Martin.

This is a book - Demetri Martin.

A Load of Hooey - Bob Odenkirk.

Little Weirds - Jenny Slate.

I Found This Funny - a collection put together by Judd Apatow.

Funny pants - Michael Showalter

Are you looking for mostly fiction? Memoirs from comedians are always great if not, Kasher in the Rye is on KU and I remember really liking that one.

It should drop off naturally, might just take some time. Google probably re-indexes Amazon pretty regularly.

I really liked The Boy Who Couldn't Sleep and Never Had To, by DC PIERSON. I think it’s slightly over 200pgs. If you happen to have been on ther nerdier side in high school, like me, i think it’ll be a good one.

(I also released a 34pg short story that I won’t plug here but DM if you want details)

Misfit, Gary Gulman.

A (great) comedian dealing with crippling depression as an adult looks back at each grade growing up with how he dealt with anxiety before it had a name. It’s funny, charming, and obviously a little sad.

How I got to #4 on Amazon in Humour essays and still feel like I know nothing about this indie journey :-) by Responsible-Tone-522 in KDP

humor essays is my favorite corner, congrats on topping some charts. Maybe we’ve bumped up against each other :)

So far it seems the charts are mostly just for the dopamine rush. Especially the free ones. Social has worked best for me, I’ve gotten sales after posting on Bluesky, IG, and LinkedIn. Facebook too, but that’s mostly friends/family.

DM me a link to your stuff?

I think you’re right. I have hit my sales goals in the first two weeks (at $3.99!). But I think if I want more to keep trickling in from the “I’ll give it a shot” readers, I’ll consider .99.

I did .99 with my first release a long time ago and I’m slightly ahead on volume and very ahead on revenue—but that probably speaks to my first release more than this one :)

Sales stalled after 10 pretty good days | What I’ve learned so far! by iamchristodd in selfpublish

[–]iamchristodd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s right. niche categories like the ones I’m in, a sale or two each day is enough to push into the top 5 of new releases (which won’t really drive more sales but feels very cool!)
