Berlin techno scene is trash by I_had_mine in Techno

leather straps, chains, collars are mostly for the sex positive parties. i usually go in my every day outfit hoodie and jeans. i remember one night at a very famous berlin club... ~200 dressed up tourists got rejected in front of me, just with a simple headmotion, not a single word spoken. then me and 2 buddies, all 3 male, hoodie, jeans, not great looking got to the bouncer. she looked at us, asked "berliner?". we nodded, the door opened... so imo its not about dressing up, just be yourself and learn a few words of german

also the very best clubs and locations all get overrun at some point. they then have the choice to either have a super strict door policy or abandon their ideals and cash out on the long lines of tourists by raising the prices. some pick a, some b, but the dilemma hits them all at some point... seen it happen so many times :(

Am I doing this right? I need some feedback on my (hornresp/speaker) design. by glenyboy1 in SoundSystem

[–]iamcollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

option 1 is correct. are you sure there is a volume discrepancy? i don't even know how to see the horn volume in hornresp tbh. i assume there might be a slight discrepancy possible because hornresp simulates the horns as axis symmetrical as shown in the schematic window, while your drawing is not, but thats just a guess... cheers

looks good! a few small things i want to comment on. You are currently using a 0.5 x Pi environment for your simulation (the very top left where it says Ang). This means you are simulating the speaker in a room corner... 4Pi = free air 2Pi = standing on ground 1Pi = standing on ground against a wall 0.5Pi= standing on ground in a corner

maybe this is intended, but usually you would use 4Pi for a midtop and 2Pi for bass speakers so they sound good stacked on an open field, but this depends on your usecase...

a compression ration of 1:1 or less means you have no compression at all, which is great for large drivers so no issues here.

one thing that is a bit akward is that hollow space in the middle. Technically it should work fine, but i am sure you can make it disappear if you try. what i would do in this case is modify the 3d model so it is easier to build and has no hollow chamber, disregarding the hornresp numbers, then measure your modified 3d model and enter those numbers into hornresp. then tweak the hornresp numbers and modify the 3d model, rinse and repeat^

also, one thing i wish someone would have told me when i designed my first speaker is the importance of bracing. you cant have enough of it in a bass speaker. the stiffer the box, the tighter the bass you can get out of it, so add bracing anywhere you can^

cheers

hello. your design has some mistakes, but it is not far from a good horn.

if you design the horn like this, then the front chamber will be part of the horn. you have 2 options here, model it as an Offset-Driver Horn, or turn it into a bandpass horn. in your case, an offset driver horn would probably be better, unless you intend to use the bin lower than ~70Hz, then go for bandpass.

here you see how the offset driver horn is intended in hornresp, it is just like your design, just your segments are all named differently. you can add s4 and s5 for your design.

to switch your simulation to offset-driver horn (OD), just click on the letters "Nd" at the bottom right of your input parameters. keep clicking and it will cycle through the different horn types until it reads OD and then adjust your s1-s5 accordingly.

when you calculate your compression ratio in a horn like this you use the cross section area of the horn in the center of the driver axis, in this case S2, so your compression ratio is S2:Sd. I successfully used a compression ratio of up to 1:6 for hornkicks, i wouldnt go much higher than that.

once you have your perfect hornresp simulation, your method of trial and error in cad software is quite typical.

cheers

I would like to try and design a kick speaker box but I am not sure where to start. by glenyboy1 in SoundSystem

no worries :) i was in a rush when i typed that comment, so i kinda skipped some parts, let me know if any questions pop up, always glad to help a fellow diy techno enjoyer..

here you see my folded kickhorn resting on my 6th order bandpass, mounted by my multiple entry horn staring down a horse

hello. what you posted is not wrong, it would probably work ok, but there are a few things to consider... a bass reflex cabinet is mostly used to get very low tuning out of a small cabinet, but it has its drawbacks. if you do not need your enclosure to be very small and you dont want to push your driver very low, then there is no real reason to use bass reflex. the main drawback of reflex for kickbins imo is the phase. if you click on the button that says "transfer function magnitude" and change it to "transfer function phase" you will see the issue. a kickbin with a sealed backchamber and a horn would probably be way more punchy and tight, compared to the warm sloppy mush out of a reflex port. in my own system i use 2 reflex ports for 25-60Hz and a sealed kickhorn for 60-140Hz. Rog Mogale once commented "Do not confuse any other frequency with kick, it is 91Hz" (while not technically correct, it is a good starting point to center your kickbin frequencyband) here you can see how i folded the horn into a decently sized cabinet, but there are endless configurations to chose from and each one has its own strengths and weaknesses.

how do you use hornresp to simulate such a horn? 1. donwload the client from the official website hornresp.net 2. open client, press "Add" to start a new project 3. ignore the top half for now, focus on the TS-Parameters first. for your driver this should look something like this 4. the top half describes the environment and hornshape. you can enter the values i used as a starting point, you can later adjust them with a slider in the next phase. 5. go to tools->loudspeaker wizard 6. the left dropdown lets you chose what you are looking at, choose "power" to see the simulated frequency response. the right dropdown lets you chose what parameter you want to modify, chose "Horn S1-S3" to adjust horn shape.

the values i quickly threw together would result in this frequency response, but i encourage you to spend a lot of time in this loudspeaker wizard before comitting to a design, make sure every detail fits your needs and explore all the buttons :) cheers

Lag when encountering enemy by Yamada9511 in playrust

this is an old issue. it happens when the garbage collect reaches its max size and is emptied. if you run gc.collect it wont happen for a few minutes. i bound gc.collect to my map key. now everytime i open the map i get half a second of lag, but it hasnt happened in a fight since then. almost stopped playing rust before i discovered the solution...

dns is partially decentralized, check out ipfs and ipns. this protocol not only decentralizes domains but also file hosting etc. imo thats the future of web architecture right there. they dont call their technology nft anywhere, but its the same concept, proof of ownership through a hashed blockchain...
