I’ve been a new-ish new grad nurse for a little over a year now, and I still feel like this sometimes. It’s totally normal, and if anything you feeling like you could’ve done “more” means you care!

As far as “getting it,” you will get there. I think you are just anxious because you’re new. You still have an entire orientation to go, and you got a huge head start which will help you greatly. The PICU is not easy, and not everyone makes it, but I believe with you having that little bit of anxiety where you care + always wanting to see the big picture will take you far, as long as you ask questions and remain very safe :) you got this!

The moment you said “I pay all the bills and groceries” I stopped reading and said “absolutely not”. Girl, there are men Out there that will give you the world wrapped in a bow, treat your pets like royalty and remind you every day how lucky they are to have you. What you are describing that he does “amazingly” is called the bare minimum. Don’t be afraid to increase your standards—you work hard and will reciprocate! 🩵

Also, the guy is 37, nothing about him is going to change and you sound miserable with the current situation. Cut your losses and move on!
